Black Cardinals should have whitish or lighter variegations on it. It might be the Imperial Red or a Prince of Orange. Others on here with more experience could give a good answer on the type and growing conditions. My guess is that the yet-to-ID one in the link is a Prince of Orange variety though it is lighter than yours.

Lisa, I'm fairly certain your new philo is Black Cardinal, it's definitely not Imperial Red, which are the dark philos in the background at the link Jay provided above. Rojo Congo is a different philo and doesn't resemble Black Cardinal.

The smallish, pinched lobes on your philo are typical of Black Cardinal, as well as the oval shape and sunken veins which give the leaf a quilted look. Also, the dark color of that new leaf is correct for this hybrid. Your plant is quite large and a very nice specimen, mine has stayed small and seems a bit picky to grow although it's perked up in the cool weather this winter.

Jay, Black Cardinal doesn't have any variegation or white areas, I recall that someone recently posted a pic of a variegated Black Cardinal from Thailand on another thread, you might have seen that one. Black Cardinal is a very old hybrid, I think the variegated form is fairly new and perhaps developed by the Thais.
