Please help decorating my bedroom

last modified: 8 years ago

I am trying to update my bedroom in transitional style. Please advice. I have to remove those ugly chairs but not sure what to buy without breaking my bank and how to arrange furniture for sitting area? more photos in comments. I am thinking to add ikea lack console table in front of my bed to hide TV wires and put all devices on it. Also need to add a large ottoman to hide all extra pillows and blanket.

This is fabric for my duvet cover and euro sham

Yes I thought to replace the covers with the same fabric that I bought to sew my duvet cover but I am thinking to add more seating in that area (not just 2 chairs) as my room looks very empty right now. I thought a round rug with 4 chairs and round ottoman in b/w?

Hi UI, you have a nice large room to work with that offers a few challenges. Agreeing with MJ, remove everything off your walls before you go to the next step. The wires for your TV and cable can be installed within your walls. A good handyman can do this in an afternoon. That will clean up your wires. You can then install a small shelf under the TV to hold your cable and/or WIFI box. Better yet, buy a TV with all of that installed in the television. Electronics are so inexpensive these days. Consider taking down your heavy curtains and replacing them with lightweight semi-sheers and install them closer to the ceiling. This will give your room more light and make these smaller areas look larger. You can hang them beyond your window to the end of your wall. That way when you open them they will reveal your entire window and again, provide more light. You have a lot of doors in the seating area. A nice lounge can replace the chairs that will provide more seating and also reclining if you so choose.

The photo below shows the curtains raised above the windows to give the room more height. The two chairs pictured are comfortable stuffed chairs, a little larger than the ones you want to replace surrounding a ottoman that serves as a table. Pull the chairs away from the wall and in your case you could install a large storage ottoman off set from the chairs and a side table that can go between the chairs to hold a lamp. If you want to free up the space on the table then a floor lamp or two reading floor lamps behind the chairs will work. The floor lamp below is for reading and is adjustable so that it can be raised for conversation and lowered for reading.

Good luck with your project. Keep us all posted on your progress.

The problem is I can't change the drapery :( I bought it recently and it
would be hard to debate with my husband on that:) plus we need thicker curtain to stop the light sometimes in the afternoon or morning. These are lined thermal curtains but what I can do is to increase the length couple of inches by opening the bottom hem and
then move the rods as you said. Do you think I should add grommet or rod pocket is fine?

Also as my curtains has matt gold lines, do you think I should use gold accent in my room? I am thinking to repaint my sunburst mirror in mat gold. Also thinking to replace my small lamps with 28 inches high lamps with gold base or mercury glass (which is kind of silver I have)?

I cannot tell what color your sunburst mirror is in the picture but it seems to be fine as is. You have a lot going on with the pattern in your duvet and your curtains. Perhaps add a solid/neutral throw at the foot of the bed and matching pillow cases or shams.

The curtains appear to be full enough to allow you to expand your curtain rod out from the window a few inches on each side. If you are able to lengthen them,go with the grommet.

The taller lamps will help bring the sunburst together with the bed. Just be comfortable with the height so that the light isn't blinding should you want to read in bed.

Getting a TV console for under the TV would be nice, along with getting nice full thick curtains. The artwork you have is really nice. Perhaps try getting some nice accent chairs that go well with your bedding and color choices? Get them in a solid color. Maybe white to brighten that side of the room?

In the bed area, take the drapes right across the wall. In the seating area, use fuller drapes as well. Lower the large are and the sunburst: they’re both quite a bit too high. Find a place where the small art by the drapes could be hung as a tight paint. Paint the doors to match the walls.

If you put a console under the TV, make sure it is very narrow. It looks like there’s hardly room to get by as it is. Can. The TV be moved to the sitting area? A wide couch with pillows and a coffee table would provide a comfortable viewing spot. If the sofa has a low back, you could still see the TV from the bed. Can you move the bed!? A floor plan with measurements would help.

I tried to move the bed to sitting area but with closet and bathroom door it wasn't looking good plus I looked cramped. I am thinking 12 - 13 inch depth bookcase under TV like in picture below or ikea lack console table

For chairs I am more inclined toward this: ( I have very active 3 kids so trying not to buy biege or white fabric chairs).

I definitely need to work on my curtains. As mentioned earlier, I will open the seems from bottom which will increase length by 4 -5 inches. Will install new wider rod.

Question here: What would you guys recommend for curtain if I decide to change? I am more inclined to teal colors that is in my duvet color. Does that make room look very dark? Should I go with cream or lighter shade of taupe?

I like your choices, but then that's one of my favorite colors as well.

so I bought chairs , ikea console table and curtains pictured above. In process of putting everything right now. I also bought lamps and painted them gold as well as my sunburst mirror. Can someone recommend rug that I can put under chairs? gold yellow tone, biege shag or teal color? I also bought a golden table to go in b/w chairs and debating to buy golden ottoman as pictured below

Progress on my decor. I painted my lamps and mirror to golden as well as knobs of my bedsides and dresser ( I am obsessed with gold spray paint i think:)). Added console table and chairs with ottoman and shag rug. Moved the chairs under big art and lowered that art too. Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks

Wonderful transformation. Nice color pallet you can enjoy for years. Switching the dresser location with the chairs make perfect sense.
