Dining room Help

My dining room is.....boring! All we have in it is our table and chairs. I am thinking about finding a small buffet to go on the side by the window ( that just looks out into the porch) next to the door.

The door leads to a 3 season porch. The two walls are not the same size, so I can not really do anything that is the same on both walls. There is an archway that goes right into the living room and another doorway that goes to the kitchen.

I have tried putting the table next to the window facing the outside, but that does not feel right either.

I need wall decor...something on the bigger wall...something in the one corner???

Any suggestions or photos would be appreciated.

What lovely wood moldings and flooring! Is this a Craftsman style home?

I agree with Barnes, that the table would look better pulled away from the wall and set lengthwise with the long walls. And probably no to a side table or buffet blocking a window, but one or two scaled to the size of the room, sure. Lighting? A pendant and/or lamps. Artwork for the walls, table, centerpiece. Stick with Craftsman style pieces - possibly Shaker or Mid Century Modern. And I always suggest a plant - perhaps on a pedestal for in front of the window.

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but I really want to turn the table and pull it off that wall. Is there not enough space? It is very awkward. I think once you figure out the table placement, the other elements can fall into place. But for me this is not visually working.

If I turn the table, I have to put it against the wall by the window. Otherwise it will block the flow from the porch and the kitchen.

Table turned - not against the window

I was thinking a short buffet/console table that is the height of the base of the window looking toward the porch

Does this work better in this space?

I think the table looks better oriented that way. Since there appears to be little to no room for a chair on the window side, I would suggest a bench. If you would like more symmetry, you could also replace the chair with a bench on the opposite side and just keep a chair at each end.

re: the table under the window - that seems very short. Have you considered a slim table( 12"-18" wide) on one or either side of the window (not facing the porch?) Or on the wall opposite the door - which is not shown in the photos.

Can not do a table across from door - that is the opening to the kitchen
