If you have some awesome pictures of her garden/flowers, print them on fabric and use an attic window pattern???? Or look for blocks of various flowers and use green sashing for a path through the garden????

I'd recommend a floral print fabric with a solid, the solid will make the print pop!

For a simple design, Beverly suggestion is a good one, as is any disappearing 9 patch. Just google disappearing 9 patch and you'll find free patterns - plus it's super easy, but looks much more involved when finished.

I think an Irish chain would be lovely with a gorgeous floral print and a solid or tone on tone in complimentary colors forming the chain.

Thank you all! I googled some Irish Chains and also came across some really nice log cabin ones too. Here's one of the log cabins I found. Do you think this was pieced totally random or is it actually somewhat controlled? Here's the link to where I found this one.

Lois, that is beautiful! I always thought of Log Cabin as country looking, but that gives a totally different look. Definitely a possibility for my new quilt.

I think Lois is spot on. But, remember if you do a log cabin, measure and trim (if needed) with each round of pieces. If there are any inaccuracies in piecing, it builds up and your blocks will be different sizes and hard to work with. It is easy to just follow a size with each round and then they will come out perfect when you are ready to join your blocks. Don't ask me how I know!

Really like that quilt Lois posted. I have made dozens of log cabin quilts for charity sales and donations. There is a series of rulers you can buy that have all the calculations done. You just cut a, b, c length, etc. I do not buy many rulers, but this is one that makes a huge difference.

Carabubble, I would say the log cabins are controlled. The predominant strong floral prints range from the lightest prints for the short logs to the darkest prints for the longest logs. Each log can be different, but I would keep the shading consistent. The same goes for the light side (almost reads as solid) half of the block - lightest for the short logs, darker for the longest ones. I think if it were pieced randomly, the pattern would be muddled. Be sure to follow Toolgranny's suggestions too.

I'm heading out to look for fabrics tomorrow. I'm probably going to do an Irish chain quilt unless the quilt store has a better idea. Reading a blog about the floral log cabin blocks, I would need a LOT of floral fabrics to pull it off, and I don't have them.
