Stone and Brick Mix - ok or not ok

We will have an open concept farmhouse. We will have a corner fireplace and I prefer a stone, rustic fireplace as compared to brick. However I'm considering brick (brick veneer) behind the cooktop. I'm having a hard time combining the two, thinking I need brick on the fireplace that matches that on the backsplash. Other than behind the cooktop, it will be beadboard. Can you mix stone and brick within the main living/kitchen area?

    Brick behind a cook top will be very hard to keep clean. Brick is porous and all grease splatters will be absorbed into the brick. Choose another material for your backsplash.
