what you want to do seems fine. the opening is for seeing, not something precious to protect at all costs!

I think I get it too...I think the chair would be fine higher than the half wall, but I would want other things to also be higher than the wall, like a tall standing lamp or tall plant and I would want them to come up above the wall by at least 2-3 feet, that way the wall will kinda fade into the backdrop of the room. Hope your wrist heals soon!
