saija, it's possible your Ghost Spirit is really Ghostmaster. I have that one, (no good pic) and it doesn't get the misting that Spirit does, but it's still pretty.

Thanks sandyslopes but some are just more floriferous than others. I know if you grew Gemstone, Gold Drop, Goober... you would have the same result because you grow everything to perfection!

nicholsworth I edit and crop too but for me sometimes a bad photo is just not savable.

Sandylopes: thanks for tip, I will look pictures of GhostMaster. It's so young plant that I have to wait and see what it becomes ( but now i'm sure it's not Ghost Spirit) . I think also it's pretty what ever it's name is. And wow those Golden Sculpture flowers of yours.

Thanks Laurie! It's funny that just before I came back here I was looking up Gemstone. Yours and zkathy's are tempting me. I really shouldn't be making a list, but I'm weak when it comes to hostas. :-D

Shadow, alas I have no secret, I saw it for sale and it was huge already so I grabbed it and I'm glad it has not shrunk or died as yet lol.

I do have another older one but it is not a good one.

I can only guess that there are good and bad batches of GE out there and I seem to have one of each. I hope yours grows for you.

Also, I’m not sure about your Grand Prize. Are you sure you grabbed the right pic?

I have been impatiently waiting for G since Great Expectations is my favorite hosta and I could look at pictures of it all day. Here are some of my Gs

Guacamole (But I call this one Don's Guacamole since it came from Don). It has done well.

Is this a young Great Expectations? Lost the tag, of course. It's a really nice hosta and was probably 2 years old when I took this picture last summer.

I'm missing photos of Gold Regal, Geisha and Golden Tiara, but here's my little Gold Drop - love the straight-up scapes (they salute me in the garden: "yes ma'am, yes ma'am, three bags full ma'am"... and that's what I like to see!!!!).

mbug, that Golden Prayers is a real cutie. Do you blow the leaves before you take pics? Those cupped hostas catch a lot of caca in my garden.

kathy....True about Golden Prayers....consistently bright...I just brush the "caca" off if it looks bad lol!

After seeing several of your pictures, I am considering that this previously noid hosta may be Gold Standard. It's a biggun! This is early Spring when it looks really good. Later in the Summer, it gets sunburn pretty badly.

Not only is this hosta beautiful, but it retains that beauty throughout the season. Many hosta can't compete with that (in my opinion)!

Do try GE in a pot windymess. I started with mine in the ground. It grew steady but quite slow. One day I decided to experiment by placing it in a pot and moving it to a brighter location with midday sun. That really helped. Since then, I've kept all my GE's in a pot.

I think every photo on this thread of GE is pretty. (And thank you for the compliments on my GE.) Even as a small plant, GE is very attractive. You can't say that about all hosta. Some hosta need to "grow" into their beauty.

One thing I did notice about GE is that if it does not receive enough sun, it will have a slight greenish coloring to it in the summer. My garden is quite shaded so I have to make note of the areas with the most sun.

I got that small thing as a Great Expectations last year. It will be interesting if and as what it comes back in spring...It was cheap, so no harm done if it is not GE :-)

Popmama...that's just a funny summation of what I hear in Germany about GE...but if it grows it is a beautiful hosta and worth to have a little patience...

I try to give all my potted hostas a good amount of sun in spring. It will be hard work to bring all the new pots to a sunny place this year but I think it is worth it. I put them in sun as soon as they have pips or around end of March. The first years I was afraid but lots of them can stay in sunny places all summer long and do not burn at all.
