Given your style I would paint a thick band of a primary colour from the door around the corner and across the wall about the height of the lamp on the credenza... I would stop it just past the table and let the paint peter out rather than having a blocked edge

Posters of things yo are interested in would add a lot of color if you want punches of color in a controlled way.

@olldbobbi: I like the idea, especcially with the possibility of adding some shelves for books. To be considered! :-)

@ASVInteriors: I think your suggestion would also create the illusion of a bigger room, which is a nice extra because of the small dimensions. On the other hand, I'm a bit scared it could be too 'loud'... It could try it with Photoshop first :-)

Definitely try it with photoshop first .... funny, I know a Stijn living in Hasselt, Belgium... and quite a large family from there!

Excuse my bad photoshopping but here is the idea I was thinking of an artist (soutine I think is his name who does huge black stripes across canvas so they have all the imperfections on the edges)

I see this black and white design you have going...and this series came to mind. I thought I would attach it and offer it for ideas. =) So they are at the bottom. There are a bunch of pieces in that series and it's versatile for design.

The least expensive option is to print on paper and have it shipped rolled in a tube...and frame it where you are.

Lastly...be picky, it's your space...don't settle for something less than what you love.

Oh, that eye clock is funky...LOVE IT! =D I would place it above the books or the console by the door.

Suggest a graphic wallpaper given lighting and furniture choice or colour block (cheaper and easier to apply). Add large black and white photographs framed in black with white mat -- use own photographs to personalize ....

You could also just draw a large treble clef, fill in with black marker or ink, and spend money on a nice frame. You could also photo copy various angles with in the treble clef and enlarge them so they are abstract. You could do a collection.

Hi again. I have tried to attach a photo of my bedroom wall that I painted. It was really a cheap way of making a wow factor, The photo doesn't do it justest as it was taken with to much light in the room. I used Dulux Paint in the Pearl shine. They also have it in the Black pearl which would look great and cost effective. I hope the photo attached correctly. Good luck

Great furnishings, especially the chairs! I suggest a large piece of art work such as this in a complementary color. Over your sideboard, consider either a large mirror only or a medium sized mirror hung to one side (towards the dining area) with either floating shelves or art work.

@turner3477 That certainly gives a nice touch to the room! But I think I need some more colour or texture to create a bit of an effect. But I'll think about this when I'm ready to do my bedroom as well ;-)

I bought one of those birchtree stencils and plan on painting it a bluish-grey for a feature wall.That might look great in your space too...

All you see is IKEA - believe it or not - and rather cheap :-) Except for the flooring, the chairs of course and the lamp on my sideboard (fyi, that is a Constanza http://www.luceplan.com/Prodotti/1/2/146/t/84/Costanza). how about a print from the museum of modern art? find one with bright blocks of abstract color.

I think you would benefit looking at Ikea at www.ikea.com for some accessories such as artwork or anything else decorative. Painting your entry wall and dining chairs in something bright combined with a nice piece of wall art in front of the table would give your space much needed pop. Paint the entry wall all over in a bright reddish, orange color and paint the chairs a bright lime green. This creates a complimentary color contrast. Having one piece of wall art adjacent to the table gives the room 3 standout accents. Top off the entry cabinet with a pair of purple or pink orchids in nice decorative vases for a more relaxed, zen-like feel.
