WTF? P&G changed "Original Scent" Tide pods!

I do not know what is wrong with this company?!

Tide liquid "Original Scent" has always been blue. Just like Windex...blue. Now, blue colouring does not affect performance, but Tide, Windex, Tiffany, Double Bubble...their colours are a part of culture!!

So, P&G has made the current Tide "Original Scent" pods now a green liquid. Green! Why?

Also, why do I keep quoting the words Original Scent?! Well....P&G has changed the scent of "Original Scent" Tide pods! Ughhhhh!!! Tide pods have always kind of smelled like a Tide liquid did and should smell. Now, their "Original Scent" has been gifted with their chemical, sweet, candy perfume nauseating scent.

I keep saying it...I HATE P&G!

Agree 1000%. Why mess with a good thing? Ask R&D at P&G!

I don't even know if it's the REAL scent as Tide original but Tide scent pearls are now out.

George I bought the Downy unstoppables Tide in wash scent boosters. OMG!!! Strong, strong, and they smell nothing like Tide detergent! It is cloying and gag inducing. I think I am actually going to return them to Target.

After using them for 2 loads, I can still smell them in the clean and dry wash drum and our laundry room smells like them. Ughhhh!

I was at Meijer last night and saw that they are making Coral Blast in the pods. This caused me to just laugh and imagine the disgust that you guys would have! LOL! I did notice that the Tide OXI is flying off the shelves. I will have to see if I can sniff some of the "new" original scent pods.

On a side note, I sold a patient at the pharmacy some Gain liquid, FS, dryer sheets, Fireworks, and Tide White Boost pods. I thought of you guys then as well. Yes, they reeked of Gain.

I have seen the new color pod also. Looks like the one that has febreze added. Tide just can't seem to decide.

Seen those the other day too and yep scents changed. Here’s a picture of their “new” original and ocean mist.

Just read an article saying that P&G is changing the pods from the bright colors to be less attractive to the people that are eating them? Maybe this is why they changed them from blue to sea-green? I can't seem to find the article again, as it was from a few days ago. But, if I find it again I'll post it.

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/tide-pod-challenge-ingesting-detergent-risks/

"Ann Marie Buerkle, acting chairman of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, says ingesting any of the liquid carries a deadly risk.... Buerkle says her group has worked with manufacturers to make the packets less attractive to children. 'Making that laundry packet opaque, less attractive, less colorful, reducing the toxicity and the strength of laundry detergent,' Buerkle said."

Just my theory, but perhaps this recent outbreak of stupidity is why P&G changed their colors for the pods?

I also seen an tv commercial today saying Tide updated all the Tide formulas to be 10x stronger than any other competing brand. It showed pictures of tide, tide with bleach and tide oxi liquids on the commercial. So I’m guessing the formula changed too somewhat.

I’ve only used ocean mist tide pods because they are mild and not as strong or overpowering as the other scents .. so I bought a new bag and noticed that they DO NOT smell the same .. thought maybe I just got a defected bag and maybe they put the wrong pods in ! I called tides 1-800 Helpline / Questions and they verified that the ocean mist was now a new scent .. ( though it did not reflect the change on the bag ) and I let them know my displeasure and also that it’s misleading to change the product and not the packaging .. I’m not happy @ all about this .. and am returning my bag . They said they will forward my feedback and I will receive a gift card for compensation for the purchase .

Larsi! So good to hear from you again, when did you get back? Looking forward to your thoughts and comments. Yes, why can't we have more either subtle good scents or scent-free products?

Sorry to disappoint but Larsi isn’t coming back.

This is an old thread @venmar.

They Changed the ocean mist scent as well. I used to like it now I can’t stand it ewww.

They changed the liquid detergent, too. I must have been buying older bottles, just noticed it with this new one I opened today. I used to use Era but they changed from a nice clean smell to overbearing perfume scent, too. Guess I'll just stick to unscented from now on : (

They changed the ocean mist scent pods and they stink now. I wish they would quit changing the scents ugh.

I rely on unscented All free & clear, Tide with Bleach and Cheer. No scent and little scent to those. I do use Ariel for jeans, rugs, etc. and just put up with the Ariel stinky sweet. Mostly goes away after the dryer.

Doesn't matter right now since I've had a sinus infection for almost a month and can't smell much of anything anyway.

I just could not figure out why I smelled like some strong fragrance yesterday ALL DAY!!! It was overwhelming!

Today did laundry early, hung many items to dry ,,, workout clothes, blouses etc. ENTIRE HOUSE SMELLS LIKE I DID YESTERDAY!!! OBVIOUSLY,TIDE CHANGED THEIR SCENT AND IT STINKS! My entire house and any clothes I have washed STINK like a plug in air freshener! UGHHH

    WHY??????

I know I hate all the new smells. They ruined the ocean mist scent I loved. Finally they made a clean breeze one but it smells nothing like my favorite liquid clean breeze scent. I wish thy would stop changing the scents.

We've made the switch for going forward; mostly only use Free and Clear type of liquid detergents. The scents added to present-day liquids have twisted into disgusting smells one can not get away from. Powders like Tide powder are still alright with us (does not smell anything like Tide powder from yesterday though, to be clear), but leaning over to Free and Clear types of powders too. Dh likes Tide w/Oxi liquid scent on his clothes, but I could never use it on my own. I find it too strong and makes me feel sick to my stomach. He has a less than effective sense of smell, so maybe that's why he likes it. It probably smells fresh, yet faint to him. To the rest of us, kind of wowsers.

They use to have some nice soft fragrances added to laundry detergents, but these days, it keeps getting stronger and more repellent, imo.

fyi, Cheer powder was a good detergent with a faint aroma, but it seems it has been discontinued. If you see some on a store shelf, you'd be wise to buy a box or two.

I like the scent of Original Tide HE liquid and it's not too overpowering. On the other hand Persil is so strong out of the bottle that I find it hard to breath!

I absolutely hate the “new“ Tide original fragrance....I’ve used Tide all my life & loved it....now, I can’t stand the smell! P&G obviously doesn’t understand the concept of “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” They have ruined it & I have to find a new detergent😡

I’ve used Tide for years bit no more since they changed the scent, which never seems to go away! I’ve washed and washed things with a detergent that has no dyes and no scent! But I can still smell the nauseating scent left behind by Tide Pods! I love Ivory now!

Has anyone tried mixing the regular scented version with something unscented like Tide Free & Gentle? Probably only need 1/3 regular to 2/3 unscented to get a nice residual scent.

That's a thought to water down the fragrance with unscented but I can't say I even like the fragrance. I prefer my Miele detergents but I'm sending my son off to university and he'll need something convenient to do laundry with. Not thrilled about unscented pods since it may not be enough to handle "rarely" washed stuff. Not really sure what I'm going to send at this point ... Saw lots of complaints on the P&G website about the latest fragrance switch which people find way too strong.

livebetter, I'm not a Gain person, but the Gain Flings are really mild and would clean well for a college student.

    Actually, VERY well.

@Pat Z5or6 SEMich Gain isn't one I'd think of for being mild. I've honestly never used it or even smelled it before. I'll have to grab a small pack to try. Which would be mildest you think? Classic scent?

    livebetter,

Do you have Grab Green pods available to you in store or mail order? Do you think those would work for your son? Folks here a few years back were fond of those. I used to buy them for my daughter when she was in college and she liked them very much. I think I remember you are in Canada. Options seem a bit limited there though.

@Pat Z5or6 SEMich so I bought a small bag of Gain original. It said Febreeze on it and the smell in the bag was something. I couldn't see how this was going to fly. Amazingly after washed and dried it was not super offensive. A bit strong but I actually didn't mind the scent which wasn't sweet like Tide and wasn't knock your socks off after. We may have a winner.

@SEA SEA I can buy them yes. My mom likes the lavender one for sheets/towels. Not sure they'd be enough cleaning power for a teen boy who likely will barely wash anything. I did think of them though. I may get the GG oxygen bleach packs. He wanted white (!) sheets and I'm sure they'll need all the help they can get.

If I remember right our dearly missed MaMa told us that when Tide changed their scents that Mountain Spring scent is now the old original scent.

Sea sea.... and anyone else that didn’t see the other thread talking about Cheer powder. It’s not discontinued!..... yippie. Walmart has it In store and on their website.

    Hi Mimi,

Thanks for shout out and the heads up on Cheer NOT being discontinued! That is great news! I've been rationing what Cheer powder I have left. I really like my Cheer powder and I'm glad to know I still have it available!! :-)

    Livebetter,

Yes, it was the Lavender GG pods daughter really liked, and she enjoyed them for sheets and towels.

I wonder if a couple of Tide Free and Gentle pods with a GG oxygen bleach pod would suffice for your son? I'm trying to think of a pod strong enough, but doesn't stink up the whole neighborhood...

My other daughter REALLY likes Tide F&G pods for her laundry (it gets quite smelly--works out hard and a lot, then the laundry sits in the hamper for a long time). She mentioned just the other day how she misses Tide F&G pods so much. Pandemic buying had made them unavailable to us for months. I'm starting to see them in stock online again and may reorder at some point soon for her. But she's having good luck getting the stink out with Kirkland Free and Clear liquid at the moment. Liquid (I feel) is a challenge for laundromat types of settings though, unless one has a small bottle to cart around--like those sample size bottles one finds sometimes at the Dollar type of stores--fill those up every few weeks or so and bring that to the laundromat or laundry room down the dorm hall instead of a large bottle. I'm glad the college laundry situations are behind this family! Good luck, and everyone does get through it, somehow :-)

The smell is sickening. I had to stop using. Please bring back the former l’incendie smelling” scent!

When Tide changed to the super stink I swapped over to Aldi Tandil. It's exactly like Tide used to be, and you don't have to put up with P&G annoying metric measurements either.

Get a life P&G, we hate the new smell and we actually use US units in the US.

@SEA SEA came to update this. I sent him with the Grab Green oxy pods and the Tide with Downey Free pods. Worked out fine. He even managed to keep white sheets pretty white. He's in an apartment this year with a stacked top loader set so will be a different laundry experience than the front loaders in residence. The laundry is also right outside his bedroom so hopefully he does it more often lol. I've been using a lot of the Tide with Downey Free mixed with a bit of the cold water for a light scent. I may sent him some of that as well - his pods were starting to get low.

Oh that's great to hear livebetter! I'm so glad you updated the story. He made it through somehow. Isn't it nice his living situation has upgraded?

I haven't used the Tide with Downey Free myself, but I've read some nice things about it here and now you have a positive report too...Might have give that a try when it's time to restock detergents. Dd still is a fan of the Grab Green pods and mentions them a bit more often than one would think a young person would.

...still so glad the dorm life is behind us. Glad the worst is behind for you too.

@SEA SEA I still have another one to go lol. Will be quite a few years for me still.

His first year certainly wasn't what first year normally would be. All just making the best of the situation currently.

I really like the Tide with Downy Free. The liquid has no OB apparently so I use it for colours all the time. I usually add a small bit of coldwater Tide and end up with lightly scented laundry which I prefer. My son has the pods which do have OBs but work really well also.

@livebetter Your opinion of the Tide w/ Downy Free was the tilting comment that caused me to buy a bottle yesterday. It was time to restock. I think I'll like it a lot based on yours and other's experiences. I like to do a pre-wash/soak when needed with Tide F&G liquid then a main wash with the F&G powder. The differences in the formulas pretty much covers all our laundry issues. Good results with our tough laundry challenges here. I don't have a miele like I think you do. I have to do a couple extra steps to get the end result I want.

Our two didn't have typical or expected first year college situations either. Hopefully it goes a little easier with your next one. I'm still so glad that is behind us.
