Normally this is not considered ideal...but it is *possible. It will take careful consideration as to wood presentation (species/colour/plank width and install direction) to make this as attractive as possible.

Usually the only way this works is if a narrow doorway connects the two floors and a handsome transition is used to separate the two floors. It also helps if a door can be closed to separate the two floors from one another.
