I'd seriously consider built-ins with shelving above and deep cabinets/nightstands below. Right now, your nightstands aren't as functional as they could be because the tops are recessed too far behind you. If you make the nightstand portion deeper, they will be further forward so you can put a table lamp on them for reading. This is the right idea, only your bed will not be recessed:

Thanks, Sabrina! The night stands are currently pulled out to be level with the bed, so, while absolutely functional, they may not look their best. The sides are different widths, so I think trying to do matching things, like your lovely photo above, may not work very well.

If you want to do the mirrors, they should be the same size, IMO. Also, Definitely get larger lamps. Agree with mayflowers.

Here are mirrors in working with imbalanced placement. Keeping them neutral to blend into the paint might help disguise the differences. Seems to work here and the starburst helps focus the eyes on the center instead of the odd outsides. Your headboard may work the same way to bring the focus to the middle of the entire wall.

You've got great pieces of advice here! If you do decide to go with mirrors, we suggest painting the bed wall and alcoves in a darker color than rest of the room. It will make the width differ less noticeable.
