I'm not sure if it really is that simple to keep them. I tried something similar but they grow upward and sideways. To keep this look I have to keep pruning them. If they are planted together like this they grow the direction of sunlight. They don't just split up and grow a separate plant next to itself to keep that "contained" / clean look.
