I love it!

HI -- I love the way it looks now . It looks very high end and all you need is to up grade the lighting . Look for an L.E.D. mirror . Put in a sparkly chandelier . Paint the ceiling with a metallic paint such as Ralph Lauren paint or a gold leaf wallpaper . You do not have room for a full vanity and if the pedestal sink is working , then it is fine . Or maybe replace the sink with a cut to fit white marble counter with an under mount fancy shiny sink and new statement fixture. Lighten the matt on the picture over the toilet or possibly re-frame with a bigger shiny frame .

I think it's gorgeous as is, and not the least bit drab. But if you are ready for a change, paint is your best bet. I actually think the pedestal sink is lovely, and with the chest there, there is no need for a vanity. Right now it really stands out next to the dark walls, as does the toilet. If you paint the walls a light/medium shade pulled from the travertine, both will blend in nicely and your art and chest will rightfully be the star! I'm so envious.... what a beautiful powder room!!!

The chest and pedestal sink are one item too many IMO. I would have considered the red cabinet for the vanity (see examples below) or the white pedestal by itself.

Nice size powder room. The walls are lovely, but dark. Would you be willing to turn the red chest into a vanity if it fits in the niche? I think putting another cabinet (vanity) in the space will be crowded. The mirror looks too large (don't fill the area) and the art over toilet is too small (go to a vertical piece or add a second). Too many things on top of red cabinet. I would only have one thing on top, and lower the artwork so it relates to the cabinet. Move the toilet bowl brush to utility closet and buy a pretty wastebasket.

I see Beverly and I had the same idea. Here is the vanity that was in my parent's lakehouse powder room. It had an Asian feel and the mirror related to the piece. (Sorry blurry, but all I could find online from the old listing.)

Identify what bothers you about the room, then go from there

Personally, I wouldn't touch anything, except for maybe tinting the ceiling more with wall color, to blur the edges a bit more, or doing more fun stuff with it, like maybe wallpapering.

The idea of using the existing cabinet for the vanity is cool, but it might be a) too high thus a bit uncomfortable to use b) too wide to fit in the niche c) you'll loose some storage while converting it d) you seem to love it as is

You can always try different art and see how you like it there. I do like what I see now, but such small changes might be all that you need to percieve the room differently

I like what you have. That red cabinet is wonderful. If you're going to change something I'd go with a lighter paint. It will change the feel/look of the room though. I like your art. I'd consider adding a second piece above the one over the toilet. I agree your mirror could be a little smaller. Though I'd rather see an oversized one than something undersized.

I like it a lot, but not being a fan of brown, I'd paint the room a very dark navy or very dark gray/charcoal. (and I'd get a different trash can -- if you need one).

I like nosoccer's idea of a dark gray. Looks like there's some gray in the floor. ?

Yellow gold paint, in between the gold in the woman's dress and the gold tree in the other painting, would work well with the red chest.

I'm another vote that it's a very striking room, but if you want some change, fair enough. I think you could add some class with a more modern vanity, even if you kept the rest mostly the same. Probably wall-hung.

Love what you have but can see a different sink and mirror. Don't paint it! The room is awesome.

Lovely room. If you want to change something, how about cheap and easy? Switch out the white hand towel for a red one to pick up the color of the lacquered chest. Done.

I would fit the red cabinet into the niche and make that the vanity. Dark colors soak up all the light, so since this is a powder room where guests will want to check their makeup, you might focus on better lighting in the mirror area. Continue the Asian theme throughout the decor here. Any art should repeat the red.

on my monitor there's no gray in the floor..it's travertine..only very warm greige might fly and wouldn't attempt even very warm greige..I think minimum taupe or tan, if to go with lighter neutrals. This floor won't handle cooler shades next to it well enough. Yellow gold would be striking with that red, yes-having said that I really love that chocolate, but would borrow the idea of incorporating gold for ceiling treatment

Agree about the bin btw, even though I'm sure it's very hygienic to use and all.

ah, and agree about the towel. Doesn't have to be all red but can contain red in its pattern. It's also huge fun to choose towels..:)

how about using that red chest and painting the walls a grey tone?

You could use a beautiful wallpaper behind the vanity, there are some amazing ones out there!

There was a comment about painting it navy and I like that idea too.

You could also change out your mirror to a brushed brass.

Love this bathroom! I would reframe and remat the art over toilet, perhaps use oriental style mirror over sink but it's wonderful room. Folks on this forum are very knowledgeable regarding these finishing touches.
