We remodeled completely our kitchen last year. Still have work to do. On the island for example. We don't exactly know what to do. We would like our kitchen to be less "Ikea" style. The island is from Ikea and some other accessories but not the countertops and cabinets : my boyfriend made all this.
We made a mistake when making the cement countertop in the 'L' shape : it's not exactly the right size to fit in with the wall. We think of redoing all this side of the kitchen. Maybe cut the countertop to keep only the small piece on top of the cabinet next to the oven.
And make a different type of island beginning direct from the wall. I would like a thick piece of wood almost 70" long and 33" w. Supported on one end by the cabinet next to the wall but... what to do on the other end ? We don't want or need other cabinets. We would like the keep the space open but maybe with open cases and baskets.
See on the picture our wood beam with metal plate ? I would love to have a bit of this style in our kitchen elsewhere. Maybe on the island ? How ? Do you have any idea ?
