small dining room help

I’ve been searching for a round dining table but can’t find many that I like that aren’t glass. My room dimensions are 10x13 and has a walkway to the kitchen. It is right off the front door. Not sure if this is the right size table

There would be more room to maneuver if you place the chairs on an angle.

A 42-48 inch diameter table is probably the max for your space.

How many do you seat daily? With a 4' bench under the window you could go with a 5' long rectangular table instead and still have plenty of room for a walkway. If you use smaller scale chairs you could fit two chairs on the long side of the table, in a pinch.

    Here's a quick sketch

The bench would be close to the wall, 18" deep or less, and stationary. Only for the agile. Remember, as you get closer to the wall the open doorway slants away so you'll gain pull-back room for that back chair.

I think that's a little tight. You need (according to all I've read) 36" for pulling out a dining chair and you only have 30" with a 60" table. That leaves no room for anyone to walk behind the side chairs to reach the back chair. Part of that could be alleviated if you could put the chairs angled into the corners, but then you run into the swing of the door for that one chair.

You could do a rectangular table with two chairs on each side, leaving the ends open. Maybe even squeeze 3 chairs per side. But if you did a 6' rectangle it would leave 2 feet at each end to squeeze by to the back seats. Doable, but not ideal. If you did a 5 ft rectangular table, that would be a better fit, but 3 chairs per side would be a squeeze. Most recommend at least 26" per chair at a table. If you only need to seat 2 per side, you'd have generous space with a 5' table.

(I hope my math is correct)!

There isn’t an actual door right there. It is just the opening to the kitchen. That was the only option on the app for me show where the walkway would be. I just saw a 48 inch on Wayfair that comes with an extension for
When we have over more people. I’m thinking about going with that one. My husband wants me to go with a 54 inch with the extension. I’ve tried to put the tape down to visualize. We don’t plan on having any other furniture in the space

We have 4 on a regular, but 4 when my stepson is here. I’ve thought about a bench, but the light fixture is centered on the room

Are the lines without windows/door actual walls or do they just delineate the dining area?

You could always swag the light, but I think you're on the right track with a smaller table that can extend periodically. 48" is just going to fit 4 people so you might actually find that you leave the extension in all the time and have an oval.

The dining room has three walls and one that opens to the front door and hall area. The right wall has the opening to the kitchen

    Where is the front door?

The front door is closest to the slanted line.

I just found a picture of the dining room from before we bought the house. I should have looked there to see what the previous owners did, but here it is for a better visual

That's so helpful! It looks entirely different than how I pictured from the drawing. So you just want to switch to a round table, as it looks like the rectangle fits well?

Me too Olychick! I thought the door shown in the drawing was the front door...

Oval or rectangle would be my choice.

Rawketgirl already gave you an answer of what size table you should have in this space Kingsberryl39 look at your pic real good. Your table and lighting is not centered and it looks huge for the space. What is the height of your table? 42-48” which is a square is what you need to balance out that area.

My 48" round table seats 4 comfortably but will only seat 6 when the 12" leaf is added. My dining room is 11x13 and it's a fairly comfortable fit but I wouldn't call it roomy.

Claire Larece, the table pictured isn't the op's. She states it was the previous owner's.

    Oh my bad

We don’t currently own a dining table lol! The one pictured is from previous owner. I never thought about rectangular because I couldn’t picture it until I found that pic. However, we would get a standard height table

I think the rectangular table looks like a good fit for the room, especially when you want to extend it for guests, but a smaller round that extends to an oval would also work. I just think 60" is a little large to maneuver comfortably in the room.

I’ve given up the 60 inch table! I’m now looking at rectangular as well. If we go round it will definitely be 42-48 with an extension, but the rectangular doesn’t look bad! I’m just such a visual person that it makes me indecisive lol

Olychick, I think your idea of a 5 for table would work! I see plenty that also come with an extension when needed!

Also, I just want to thank everyone for the advice! I’ve been able to complete our nursery, living room, and now dining room with the help of this site! I sometimes have preggo brain, but everything has come together fairly easy!
