Kitchen backsplash, light switch placement dilemma

Hi! I'm hoping to get a couple of opinions or suggestions on our tile placement of our kitchen backsplash around a light switch that sticks out past the edge of the counter. Originally, we had hoped to end the backsplash at the edge of the counter, but that would raise the light switch off the wall a bit and there would be a gap between the wall and face plate. The options we are considering are 1) still have the backsplash end at the edge of counter and use the trim piece to go around the light switch (I personally am afraid that would look weird) or 2) extend the backsplash past the counter so the entire light switch plate would be on top of tile. Pics show the area with the light switch, the subway tiles, and the trim piece. If we go with option two we could frame it out with the trim piece as well. I don't know, any thoughts? or other options? This is our first DIY tile project. Thanks!!
