Why not move the door to the RIGHT instead of the left? Then, you can put your sink along bedroom wall. What is the space behind your proposed toilet location (in the corner, that the tub used to be?)

Move the toilet BACK into a niche next to new shower, or turn it completely around and get it back behind the door, right and against that wall, facing wall right of new shower,,, and create a linen storage alongside the shower. You need PRO's.......who can first address the floor joists and the possible re location of soil pipe and toilet location, pitch perfect. Get pro design help on site, pro construction help. This is not a DIY bath. It begins with the "potty locale"......: ) and a custom shower for a good result. Meaning the best use of the space, selection of materials, lighting, vanity, and all the rest.

Kirkhall- that is one of the things we are debating. Wondering about privacy or if the crowding would be worse.

Kirkhall- That is another thought. The door to the room also opens on to that side so the concern is it would cut the bedroom up so that it wouldn't have adequate space for a dresser. The wall is 14 ft , currently the bathroom door and room entry door are on opposite ends of the wall. The space behind I figured shelving because I don't know what else besides leaving it empty

Jan Moyer-I agree, small stuff I can do but this is pro territory. Our contractor says moving the toilet outside of the joist is not a good idea as the basement below is finished

Moving any plumbing is expensive. You are taking a standard 40-60 master bath redo and adding 10-20K to it for all of these plumbing changes.

Yes agree with Sophie that plumbing moves and how far will add $$$. But I would far rather have inexpensive porcelain tile, and a great layout ..........than luxury finishes w/ layout "settled for". Bear in mind, CONTRACTORS differ. What may be an arduous task to one, is not to another. A contractor armed with a very skilled plumber sub can often solve issues at less expense than anticipated. Maybe your contractor doesn't like the idea of STRADDLING a couple of joists on an opened floor, getting pitch and soil pipe relocated, without wrecking a ceiling below and using a couple 45 degree elbows. At least further investigate, would be my advice. I have moved them ( loos) further than that !

An additional 10k expense over ten years is a grand a year for great vs. "meh" or inconvenient.

If you can center the door, leave toilet basically same locale customize the shower with two knee walls at 42 inch height, door centered ? You can create a nice size shower, closed linen where the vanity was, an open/shelved towel niche nice and deep at the right side of shower, facing the john.. Glass above both knee walls, with a very minimal top frame if any. And have roughly 60 inch vanity and 60 inch shower. With minimal plumbing moves. Adjustment to toilet might be minimal, all the other water is on same wall as planned. Avoiding a prefab pan/door and customizing shower is worth the $$$ ( lose the "window" over tub?"
