Gutter question

In this photo the gutters look like they are notched into the rafter tails. Does anyone know how to find out about different gutter styles that might work on a 1911 Craftsman?

We are building in a neighborhood with set floorplans but they are open for a lot of customization. The interior of this floorplan is ideal for our family but I'm not loving the exterior. It is too blocky and stately. I'd much prefer something cozier and more inviting. I'd love advice on roof lines, facades and possibly removing top porch. I'm thinking columns that are straighter on bottom or more craftsman like. I'd also love hardy shakes an stone but I'm not sure if I could make it all work! Any ideas appreciated! Thanks!

When painted to match the fascia color, most traditional gutter styles will work well. The half-round gutter profiles are probably the closest match to the craftsman period.

Hi Erin,

Answering this question takes quite a bit of study, including floor plan information. Often, projects like this can be successfully designed by using what I call a "scrapbooking" approach: Find different elements of different styles you like and combine them in a way that works for the whole house. This is a standard exercise for a design professional. I suggest searching locally first to see if you can find anyone that will guide you the rest of the way through the project.
