Your wood ceilings are my number 1 wish list item in a home so goodness no don't paint! Sand and refinish the discolored portion.

I have painted mine, just in the bedrooms and I love it! Totally brightened up my home.

I would not. Unless you want to live in a pretty white box. At the moment your floor and ceiling create a beautiful sandwich effect with your white walls and kitchen. With a white ceiling I would be worried the fresh effect will look bland and cold in a while.

My husband mentioned the other day that pine knots are fairly difficult to cover with paint. If you do not like the weathered difference on the eaves,perhaps a professional could try to match or whitewash the ceiling? Just a far reach suggestion...

ohhhhh , your house is BEAUTIFUL! The ceilings do go very well with the floors . Makes your home have character and warmth. Love it the way it is !!! I can't imagine having to pay to put those ceilings into a new house ...Would be lots of $$$$ !

Agree. I'd leave as is an refurbish the exterior discoloration. Lovely home!

If you we're to paint, the kitchen would look sterile white. You'll spend more time trying to bring some color in the room. It's beautiful now

I live in a similar post and beam house (our is a "Deck House" -- yours looks like it could be as well?) with 3" thick tongue and groove cedar ceilings that extend though the glass to the overhangs. We maintain our overhangs by once every few years spraying a TSP solution on them, scrubbing them with a brush on an extention pole, and then spraying them off with water (we got these direction directly from Deck House). We have Sikkens stain on the exterior overhangs (also Deck House's recomendation), and that doesn't need reapplied very often -- maybe once every 6 years. Our house is 30 years old, and the overhangs look as good as the day they were installed.

Our neighbors also live in a Deck House, and they put the same opague orangy-redwood stain on their overhangs as they put on their exterior siding. It looks AWFUL, especially from the inside. In my opinion, they ruined their house.

Don't do it. You will reget it.

If it were just internal I could be swayed - but as it's external too - I wouldn't ! It's part of your homes charm ! Looks beautiful !

Leave them, it fits the style, build of your home. I have no problem painting wood but in this case, I would not!!!!

Don't paint...

You already have a lot of white with the walls and the cabinets. I think painting them white would be too much. It is a strong resale value to have them left as original wood. Maybe you should sand and put a light finish on the exterior. Also consider updating the track lights on the beams and you may like them better.

I love your pine ceilings. They're perfect... warm and charming, light enough in color and texture so not to feel 'heavy'. So glad you're not going to change them!

Leave it....it's stunning. For this job I would get a few estimates and some pro advice.

So beautiful! Isn't there something else you could change? The ceilings would have to be painted again and again over the years and the wood may not take the paint well.
