Kitchen Lighting

I am currently remodeling my kitchen. I have decided on flooring & countertops but need help with lighting. My kitchen is only 16' x 9'. My countertop will be black pearl granite while my flooring will be armstrong mesa stone light gray. The appliances will be stainless steel. In the 1st pic my sink will be under the window. If needed I could add lighting above the sink. The 1st pic is also the walkway when you come in from outside so it can't be hanging low. The 2nd pic is where my small table & chairs are located. The table is not directly below the light but close. I have tried researching kitchen lighting & most pics are all showing lighting hanging over an island or a table. I don't have an island & my table is not directly below the lighting, The other pics I see are of recessed lighting everywhere. This is an option I prefer to avoid as working in my attic would be quite a task. Can anybody recommend some nice lighting to replace my old flourescent fixtures? Sorry I can't provide a better pic right now as the kitchen is in an unfinished state but the lighting needs some changing & need some help. Thanks

I have not heard any suggestions for my lighting. I will ask this question then. Do people still install track lighting? I was thinking that may be a possibility for my stove area?

There are so many options, it's hard to recommend anything. When I moved into my condo, I immediately replaced your type of fluorescent fixture with cheap fixed-track halogen lights from Home Depot, just to get rid of the horrible fluorescent fixtures. When I did my reno last year (9 years later), I replaced those with LED pot lights.

There are so many options -- go to a large lighting store or website and just see what you like. The only recommendation I will make is go for LED lights, either built in or LED bulbs. They last far longer and use so much less electricity, they're worth the slightly higher cost up front.

I agree, visit some show rooms for inspiration. Yes, most people do the recessed lights these days it seems. That wasn't as feasible for our remodel so we went with a couple of flush-mount fixtures and then splurged on task lighting. We have LED fixtures under all the cabinets and I love them. Since your cabinets aren't flush with the ceiling, consider mounting LED tape lights on top of them for a nice glow! Our sink is not in front of a window so we mounted a fixture under the cabinet that is over the sink. But this article shows either drop lights or recessed in sink/window areas like yours.
