Accent color needed.......change the color of the door for accent. Maybe a colorful pot of flowers on either side of the door.

Bushes low, large, big and green. A few different varieties of boxwood would work along with some rhododendron but be sure to keep them trimmed so they don't get out of hand. Also there is some 4ft high clumping bamboo that make a nice accent rather then sea grass look

Here's a few suggestions. I have a similar house -- porch, shutters, ranch style.

1. Remove the porch railing. It will open up the porch. The posts are uneven. Replace the one in the middle with 2 evenly spaced. Is it possible to change where you step up on the porch? Is the end accessible?

2. Paint the front door a color. The house looks like it's painted a pale blue, but that could just be the photo quality. Is it white? If so, you have unlimited choices in color depending entirely on your taste.

3. Black shutters are so predictable and boring. What about gray? (And a yellow front door?) What about a blue-gray and a cobalt blue front door?

Some more photos could help. One off-side and closer.
