Tags being removed

This is incredibly frustrating. Why is it that when I choose to add tags to a post, Houzz removes them. This has happened to me on numerous occasions. I just recently posted a question with the tags “Design Dilemma”, “Building a House”, and “Appliances”. A few minutes after posting, my two tags were removed, and only “Building a Home” remained. I have contacted Houzz on this issue, and here was their reply:

“We have looked into this for you and these tags are automatically generated by the website and then adjusted to better fit the content of the discussion post. If you find that your post is not posted in the desired forum, you can always repost the discussion in the Design Dilemma forum so it shows up there as well.

I responded that I didn’t think is was right for them to remove tags (the ones we choose) and then at the same time encourage us to make a duplicate post. Duplicate posts normally get criticized by the community and the OP is usually scolded for doing so. Actually, I tried doing what they suggested just a few moments ago, and again, my Design Dilemma tag was removed and replaced with “Building a home”

I don’t understand why Houzz would remove tags when they are the one who encourage us to use multiple tags so that our posts get more exposure. This makes no sense!

Hi there, I'm not seeing any posts from you. Can you please post a link to one of the posts you made, so I can check it out?

We don't generally remove tags unless something is very misplaced, so if this is happening, we definitely want to take a look and see what might be happening. Thanks!

When you say “we don’t normally remove tags”, does that mean that there are times when someone is manually going in and changing the tags?? Is that what was meant in the following response given to me by support...”these tags are automatically generated by the website and then adjusted to better fit the content of the discussion post.” Is someone actually going in and changing the tags we have carefully selected and attached to our posts?

Here is a [thread[(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/very-personallets-talkcleansing-toilets-dsvw-vd~5035979?n=63) started by me (see pic below). I had chosen 3 tags (“Bathrooms”, “Design Dilemma”, and “Building a House”) . It was changed and 2 tags (“Design Dilemma” and “Bathrooms”) were removed a little bit later. On the initial post, when I saw the tags had been removed, it was early enough so I deleted the post and tried again, but the same exact thing happened....tags were removed. Why would the tag “Bathrooms” be removed...the post concerns toilets! This is pretty frustrating, especially if we are looking for maximum exposure in order to get maximum feedback and input. When tags are removed, many of our posts fall into obscurity and get very little activity. It’s funny, but you have the job of creating threads in order to generate activity and participation, and then Houzz basically sabotages our own efforts to do the same. I usually always tag any post I create with “Design Dilemma” because that board has the most activity it seems and most of my posts can generally be categorized as a design delimma. But nine times out of ten, that tag is removed and a different one is put in its place....this should not be.

Here is another thread of mine to which I assigned multiple tags (Design Dilemma, Applicances, and Building a Home), and all the tags were removed except for Building a Home. Why??

Not only have I had tags removed, but I have had posts removed as well. Two days ago I posted “Houzz removing tags”. Initially, it was posted, but then a few minutes later, the post was gone (the content was the exact same content as in this post). I posted it again. The same thing happened...post removed. I did that three times and then chose to change the title of the post to “Tags being removed” to see what would happen. It posted for a few minutes, but then was removed. I searched and searched and it did not come up in any of the the searches (I used both my browser and the Houzz app to search). I even had another user here search for it as well and she could not find it either. In that discussion, I mentioned that I felt somehow I was being censored and I then sent an email to Houzz support the next morning mentioning this. Well, it miraculously appeared that morning...the thread we are on now is the one that was nowhere to be found and then reappeared after contacting support. The other 3 posts “Houzz removing tags” are nowhere to be found.

    Hi again,

The tags with discussion posts are not autogenerated. They are chosen by the poster. Houzz may suggest some tags by detecting certain words in your post, but it won't choose them for you.

That said, there is a bug that is being worked on where sometimes a suggested category will be included on a post that does not fit the content. We're working on a fix for this.

We do have the ability to remove tags if they are included in error or are otherwise not a match for the other content (for instance, a bathroom question in the landscape design forum) - generally these kinds of errors are brought to our a attention through flagging by the community. It doesn't seem like the post linked above was miscategorized, so I will have our team take a look.

For your "tags being removed" posts, it could be that your initial "tags being removed" post was temporarily caught in our filters. If when reviewed, there were three versions of it, only one would be approved and released from the filter, since duplicate threads are often an indication of error or spam. Hope that makes sense!

I just looked at my activity in both the app and using a browser and all the posts that disappeared and never got posted were listed in there, though if I do a general search for them, they do not come up.

Ok Emily.... just made another post, and AGAIN, all the tags are removed except the “Build a Home” tag. This is really frustrating!

Using safari on web, there are three tags. In the Houzz, there is only one tag.

I also don’t understand why when I copied the link within the Houzz app. when clicking on it, it launches safari and I’m brought to Garden Web. The original post was made using the Houzz App. When brought to Garden Web through the Houzz app, there is only one tag. When I go to Garden Web directly through Safari, all three tags are there. When viewing through Houzz app only, there is only one tag.

Seriously this is sooo messed up, and there doesn’t seem to be any real effort to fix these issues.

Hi Niday, The apps are not currently fully updated to support the experience you see on the web, though that will be addressed in further updates. It is confusing right now and I apologize for that! The good news is that your tags are not being removed and we will be addressing the discrepancy you are seeing when viewing via the app vs. the web. Sorry about that!

Thanks for the quick response. I actually deleted the post (that’s why the link doesn’t work) and posted it again but only added the tag “Design Dilemma”. That tag was kept with no changes after posting, so it seems when I add multiple tags, they get removed or changed somewhere along the way.
