Hello

After spending a couple years researching and learning about raising bees, I finally started last Spring. I built a Warre Hive beforehand. Then ordered a package of bees from a Georgia supplier. The whole thing went smoothly. It was still cold when they arrived, which made me nervous. But I followed all instructions and managed to get them into the hive. They took very well to the hive and the queen. So all looked well throughout the summer. Although there was one day mid summer that they appeared to be swarming next to the hive in a tree. That worried me. I kept an eye. By the end of the day they appeared to go back into the hive. And continued jetting in and out with their retrieved goods. But I noticed that they only built combs in a single box. I took advice and started them out with a single box, with a feeder in a section above for awhile. Then removed the feeder and set the quilt box above to confine them. I then placed another section below the one they built the comb. And waited. Peeking through the windows they never did build into the next box. So I added the rest and waited again. Still the same. So they died of starvation more than likely. I was not prepared to take care of them through the winter since I am a beginner. But I do not understand why they only built in a single box. Any ideas? They seemed very healthy and busy all summer long.
