New Apartment - Need Ideas :)

I am currently 26, living in my own, and just moved into my first apartment.

I'm brand new to setting up interior space but I love making things my own and I forsure want things to flow. I'm eager to learn and open to idea's.

1st - My initial thoughts are I was lookin to hang something above my couch but I'm not sure what would be a good option to go with the color of the couch. A mirror, art, abstract? Even just color tones that would work might help. (couch is dark gray with light grey stitching)

2nd - I thought about a rug under the coffee table but that that might make the room look small? not sure.

3rd - The lamp in the corner has to go and I have my internet hookup over there as well. I need light in the corner as my living room doesnt have any so floor lamp ideas welcomed as well. last thing I was thinking a small table with two levels to put the hookups on the bottom and a plant on top?

That space around the coffee table looks tight. Can you walk around it to sit down without bumping into it? It's too big. What is next to the fireplace? By having this kind of sectional in a small room, you've limited the space where you could put an end table and a reading light. A piece of art on that wall should have colors you like and might have a shade of the color of your sofa. But you should find something you really like to hang there.

I agree the coffee tabe is to big. I really like the style of it and have been looking for a smaller replacement.

As for whats next to the fireplace I have a end table with a lamp that im to fond of but it was free so I'm using it for now. any ideas on this spaces as well? maybe a book shelf? or maybe end table lamp still but different?

Ideally, that end table should go in the corner, between two sofas for a reading light etc. What if you moved the sofa section to the right closer to the fireplace, opening up the corner, and possibly removing the small part of the section that forms the corner where no one sits anyway. You would have room to put the end table in that corner by breaking up the formation. Be curious to see what happens??

That would be an idea but unfortunately the part along the window is one piece.

I was thinking if I put w/e I wanted to hang on the wall and then accent lights above it?

That other part, not along the window..is that one piece? That's the part that should be divided. Eliminate that section from the group.

You're saying the extended piece closest to the shoe rack on the left?

You can move the sectional out from both walls about four inches and get a floor lamp to go in the corner behind the sectional. Moving out a bit will make it feel less cramped. It would also allow you to hang drapery which will add color to the room.

Even better, maybe get rid of the coffee table and replace it with these great square cubes. You could use one on the end of the sectional, two in the middle and one where the floor lamp currently is. They have storage and tray tops.

Thank you, that puts a new perspective on things!

I know the couch is to big right now but I'm feling like I'll only be here for a few years before getting a house.

I'll move things around and see if a few inces away from the wall will give it some room and for sure start to look at drapes.

Sorry not being clear -- can you remove one section -- the one under the middle pillow? If not, my idea was to move the sofa under the window further to the right towards the fireplace which would open the corner possibly big enough to put that end table with a light, or one of those cubes.
