Here's a cherry one we just did finished (photos are just from install). Something long spanning to the edge would look very cool. Especially if it had hidden supports on the side without the fireplace.

What sort of vibe/feeling are you going for? Where is the house?

I suggest a big, chunky white mantel running all the way across. A decorative metal, tri-fold fireplace screen. Off-center a large print on right side of mantel (just prop it up on it, don't hang it up) and 3 tall vases on the opposite side. I hope that helps give you some ideas! Good luck! :)

I wouldn't put mantle on looks great as is maybe add some taller vases with rustic type twigs extra in them. but if you must the how about reclaimed wood stained dark and not so little

The traditional white one mentioned above doesn't look right with this style of stacked stone.

Great stone and love that you put it over the existing brick. What is the product and color? Looks great.

Thanks for all the input! I think we are going to leave mantle off for now and try some accents. Also considering painting the paneling a mildly softer color too - any thoughts?
Stone came from MS International in Dallas. Color is Golden Honey Ledger. Didn't buy it @ home depot but found out they sell it there via special order.

I like what I can see of the paneling, but I do think that a medium to light taupe/beige/greige will be gorgeous too.

I would attach a cherry or mahogany moulding that matches your tables to Incase the stone and put a mantle only over the fire place of the same color.

I would paint the paneling a light color taken from one of the stone colors preferably one of the greys, creams or tans.
