Does this cabinet door look dated?

Hi, so I’m caught redeciding my kitchen cabinet door, originally I had gone with shaker 9999 (as seen below) but I’m also really liking this raised panel door, however does it look dated? I am going with the off white paint on the raised panel door, I also have another shaker style next to it. Im going for a transitional kitchen. Which would you pick? Are raised panel doors a good choice compared to a shaker? Thanks!

I love Shaker but it's becoming so overdone. I think the raised panel is classic and more expensive looking.

The second isn't a raised panel. I don't consider the first 2 dated. Yes to the raised panel.

Sorry, I really wasn’t sure what to call it, I assumed it was a raised panel.

Raised panel will never be dated. Raised panel is traditional. Now if you do a raised panel in any other shape then straight, then it will be dated, i.e. a "cathedral" or arch. All others will be trendy. Also, don't confuse the new term "on trend" with being cool and current. "On trend" is the same thing as "trendy". The only people that should do trendy are the very wealthy that can afford to renovate their houses as soon as that trendy item goes out of style.

We're remodeling our kitchen too and a couple of kitchen designers I've talked to suggested shaker, but I am drawn to the raised panel door. I think they're prettier than the shaker. The shaker looks boring to me. I think I'm going to buck the trend and go with the white raised panel too.

The cabinets that are flat in the middle are recessed panel. A shaker door doesn’t have any grooves or trim pieces. I like all the pictures you show but I do find raised panel to be more traditional and the recessed more transitional.

Neither of those doors look dated. Pick the one you like best.

That particular raised panel does not look like an authentic panel with rails and stiles. It looks like one molded piece. In addition the edges are molded. IMO the flat panel door is a better option.

The more detail in a door or drawer face, the more you shall detail clean the nooks and cranny's . That said, get the one you like the best, and the best you can afford on your budget. Just steer clear of arches : )

Consider the construction style into your design as well. In the photos below, we used a flat panel door (like shaker - but with a few small details added), but on the first one - we did full overlay (the door fully covers the face frame) and on the second we did inset (door sits inside face frame). Different looks using a similar door.

Follow the advice above. Buy what you like in the best quality you can afford. They are both great looking!

These are 1990 Maple Cabibets that we had painted, but are the raised panel. Putting hardware on them helped modernize them

Thank you everyone! I really just love how the raised panel looks every time I see it, and I will try to accent it with more modern hardware to get a transitional look.
