We faux painted the one we have in our design center (non-working hood cover). Used Terra Brun from Sherwin Williams, some metallic paints, some black paint. Put varnish over it.

if the hood is wooden to cover the "guts" of hood, does it matter if its painted? You made note that it was a Non working Hood so Im not sure if I can do this.

There are many painted working hoods. My issue is what product are folks using to seal over the paint so that it will hold up to scrubbing as obviously it is in an area of the kitchen where it is vulnerable to dirt and grease. I don't know if the varnish we used would be adequate protection for a working hood. That would take some research and probably several coats of protection with whatever product you use. It can be done, I just don't know the best top coat to use for protection.

Metallic paint is the obvious choice, assuming it can be made durable enough. Keep in mind that fabricated shapes of wood vs. metal have different characteristics. Wood boards are a lot thicker than sheet metal, so if you build from wood or drywall, then paint it copper, even a perfect finish will not create the illusion of a copper sheet-built hood.

In the last house, we lived in we used it to restore the faded paint on the fireplace. Any brand will work. Use an engine primer first, then whatever you choose. It withstands 900 degrees F. They used engine paint on all show cars and it has to be spotlessly clean so it is very durable. Another alternative is Outdoor grill paint but I think it only comes in black. The safely issue is that if you have a grease fire, it can flame very high with the fan sucking it out into the room. Are you thinking of building a hood out of wood? I am not sure how safe that would be.
