Hi oursteelers. I like the plants on your list, but they are not true green hostas. Green hostas come in many shades and could provide the look you want. Why not do a search of green hostas, and narrow your list from there. Include plants with different leaf shapes like pie crust or smooth for example that would provide interest.

I have a long bed of hostas that is anchored by sports of Guacamole: Stained Glass, Cathedral Windows, Avocado and Ambrosia. I like the similarity of shapes that come when planting related plants. The Guacamole clan are all sort of round mounds.

You also have picked out some pointy hostas like Leather Sheen, Invincible and Devon Green. Stained Glass is a bright yellow in my garden. Aspen Gold would be your second gold Hosta in your river.

It sounds like a plan to me. How soon does your ground thaw?

You might want to research Cherry Berry on this forum, some say it’s hard to grow. And welcome to the Hosta forum; check out the alphabet for more ideas.

My ground isn’t frozen right now. I’m near Seattle and it’s been pretty mild this winter.

I ordered from Green Mountain and they said they would be delivered in April.

That's not much of a river, more like a creek.

Plant what you get and then move them around until they please your eye. And then get more and move them again! Although, I spend hours trying to determine the proper placement with respect to what's near and sun exposure. I think I may just start putting everything in pots so I can move them around easier, but I want them in the ground so they grow better (and I don't have good luck overwintering in pots (yet)).

i never realized how thankful to be for our weather until I started reading all these garden forums (the perennial, hydrangea, peony and clematis are good too) All you guys who have to overwinter in the garage and winter protect have stronger backs than me!
