ok so the brick is finished now should I white wash it or use like a more cream color like the fireplace mantle?

Well, the bricks are not the same, and worse, the mortar on the hearth is far too thick--it's 3 or 4 times as wide as on the fireplace, and it's recessed. You will never disguise the difference, no matter how you paint or whitewash it. Those bricks aren't laid in the same style.

And it looks as if the fireplace floor is now sunken below the hearth because the mortar is too thick, raising the hearth.

You might want to try changing the new mortar color to match the existing first. Grout Renew (Home Depot) comes in many colors. I used it on a similar reclaimed brick veneer project where the mortar color was wrong, and it made all the difference.

Ok, I really appreciate all the help thats why Im on here. I asked a brick mason and he told me they hearth was Old Chicago stlye, so I went to home depot asked a gentleman there he to said it was Old Chicago style its just there are so many variations that when I order it there is no guarantee which variation you will get. So with that said also the grout is actually the same as the hearth its just not coming out in the pictures for some reason bc in person it very very close. I still have to clean the hearth which I will do tomorrow. and also sone of the brick veneers were chipped on the corners so I used all the straight ones I could then just had to work it out. What is that grout repair or something that you mentioned? We really want it to look as close to the top as possible. We love the beach but we want warmth also. Also the mortor on the hearth I did not do it was there from the previous owner. there was nothing on the face of the fireplace. My boyfriend bought the house about 10 years ago and is very hard to convince changing things totally so i have to do the best I can and work with what I have. If it were up to me I would have take the hearth out totally and revamped the whole thing but he wouldn't let me so I had to do what I could.
