I'm not in Canada, so not sure how helpful can be..but here in US, upscale companies/shops that sell their products usually give one 30% discount if one works with a pro, a pro being a designer, a contractor..whoever you work with. That's very helpful..still will be expensive, still can be cost-prohibitive, but 30% off iis significant. So when looking at handmade tiles-I'd check into that too. Not sure about Fireclay policies, but such were things in couple other great tile stores we used.

I ordered probably 100 samples from different manufacturers, based on suggestions I saw on this site and many others but nothing compared to Fireclay when I put them side by side. In the end, I saved up so I could get Fireclay tiles because I could not find anything with the same look as Fireclay. I'm in the US. JMO

Hex tiles are everywhere, you won’t find chain homme anywhere else, but if you want to find the ogee drop, search for “fish scale” tile. As for the glazes, they will be tough to match in a manufactured tile.

I am not knowledgeable about FireClay tiles, but I'm aware of 2 well known and very high end handmade tile manufacturers in Ann Arbor/Detroit that would be within (long) driving distance if saving $1,000 of shipping was of interest. One is Motawi the other is Pewabic. I've seen beautiful kitchens done with both.

Given the border situation for the foreseeable situation, I'd reverse engineer the search and see what tiles you can find in Ontario that work. There are some lovely tile companies in TO, like
