Yes, it is a trend. One day it will no longer be 'it'. Yet, black is easier to combine with, than for instance green, so I guess it will not really be 'disgusting' to the next generation. There will always be people, who will fancy it.

White is the safest choice. But the first picture shows how black really adds value to the picture.

It will not feel too dark, like a wall would, which would absorb the light. We're talking frames here, like for a picture, only this time around your windows.

I suppose it is somewhat trendy, but I wouldn't decide against it based on that. It can look fabulous in the right setting. These factors will make it work better:

* Attractive, well-sized, symmetric windows

* Clean lined, sophisticated, restrained furniture and decor

* Touches of black in other places....fabrics, furniture, accessories, art etc.

Black trim can look amazing, but it has to match the style of the home.

I will give a word of warning though. If you ever go to sell, buyers are often very turned off by any trim that isn't white or wood. They see it as a project. Not saying don't do it, just know if you ever have to sell it may be an issue.

Black trim can be quite striking and a great way to update a home! It also works with many architectural and accessorized styles. What to keep in mind is what the other finishes are going to be. If, outside of the frames, you have a light color and finish palette, black can provide a sophisticated contrast. If you already have and plan to maintain a darker palette, black trim will create an even heavier living space.

If you decide to go with black trim and feel it is "too much", keep in mind you have options to soften your space with light finishes and raw, natural textures with wood, baskets, and textiles. If the black is standing out too much to you, add a little touch of black throughout your home as well. Picture Frames, hardware, and small accessories will help create a balance of the saturation in support of a cohesive design!

We thought about painting our trim black and decided on painting our front door and laundry room doors black instead to see how we like it. I love a little black everywhere. Our interior walls are a light grey with white trim and our flooring is ebony stained hardwood.

If you don’t go with black would you opt for white instead? If you are hesitant I would ask to see a rendering with white to help decide.

Black window trim seems to add a little touch of modern to interiors and exteriors. Brings them into this century. It doesn't ever seem to darken a space, as long as there are light colors elsewhere. If the walls are dark, I wouldn't paint the trim dark as well. It is currently trendy, but I don't think it will look dated anytime soon.

You could do is buy some black tape and apply it to some window trim. If you hate it, you'll know.
