Need creative help to finish living room

Help me with solution for unfinished space, furniture and art work. Previous help from Flo, Porter, and HEWE resulted in sofa, chair, coffee table which we are very happy with. However, area at front of the living room is still empty and I am stuck. Thinking a pair of chairs and table for puzzles or cribbage by the windows. Chair(s) could be used for extra seating when we have company. Would love vintage chairs and am willing to have something reupholstered. Or a single chair placed here with a second chair used in master bedroom that could be brought out if needed. Also, need foot stool for husband thinking a pair of round navy upholstered ottomans that can sit by table opposite the leather chair when not used. Although I am sure a beautiful large piece of modern artwork would look amazing over the media console it is not for me, thinking large framed antique map of SF area (home). I appreciate all questions and suggestions, thank you

    Why do you absolutely want to "furnish" the space? It seems to me that it is a place of passage to the living room area. As a professional, I will advise you more to move the piano to the window to take a little more space available. It seems to me that when you sit at the piano you are stuck between the fireplace and the wall ... You could use a little more space. What is missing, however, are paintings on the walls. Here is something that would "dress" and finish the room.It lacks the final touch namely decorative objects (vase, candles, flowers, books etc ...) and paintings on the walls. Eventually a console between the window and the front door with a lamp and decoration set!

      Very nice idea of the antique map of your home area! Since you like antiques and would like some vintage chairs, I'd suggest you take a day to scam the neighborhood for nice vintage and antique shops. You might just find the perfect little chess table there. Or the one-and-only-picture for the wall behind the piano, which can handle something big and dramatic in a big golden (or brown / black) frame.

      Love the sheet music you posted.

      Unfortunately I currently live in the Chicago area making it more of a challenge to find the right vintage pieces. For the area by the piano I am leaning towards a vintage ladder leaning against the wall to hold a few beautiful wool blankets. I am hoping to get ideas from others to make a shopping list for some weekend antiquing trips

      Yes, we need art work things to dust etc, however, I prefer to find the large pieces first. As to leaving the space open photos do not accurately show the vastness of the space which is rough 12 x 12. There is three feet between the piano and the wall currently, it is not tucked in at all.

      Agreed 3 feet is enough! So if you have 12x12 what about Two small chairs with an end table in the middle.? Kind of a conversation set

      No conversation set as we are empty nesters, but a game table or place to do a puzzle. I think I know the what it is the how that is frustrating me. What kind of chairs to work with my style, tall or short open legged, what kind and color of table? Love the idea of vintage spool chairs. Open to suggestions pictures are very helpful

      Diane R -I would suggest moving that beautiful piano to the other sides of the room—the dominant corner. It is a beautiful feature, and why cover it up with furniture right next to it. You can then easily add two chairs and a table on this closer end. I would feature your piano. It is the nicest piece in your room.

      The seating is snugged up just a hair too close to the hearth. Leave a minimum of 12" of floor exposed there, or more if you have space behind the sofa to move back. I agree that art is what is missing here, and I find that except for the piano, all the casegoods seem to be the same height. Can one of those pieces go by the door for a place to put things down as you come in? You might want to bring in a nice, tall antique (secretary or bookcase) so the TV isn't the only thing that draws the eye up.

      Piano can not go to the other side of the room, that is where the stairs and front door are. Thank you for your time; all piece are in the places they work what I need now is more pieces

      There is more than three feet between the side of the coffee table and fireplace, there is five feet behind the sofa a nice walkway; space in photos is hard to see. Again photos are misleading none of the case-goods are the same height and the lamps are tall giving the room the height. Artwork above the media cabinet will also add height. What I am needing now is ideas for pieces by the front windows. Single chair and table or pair of chairs thinking linen with a table between.

      I was speaking of the distance between the rug and hearth. 12-18" of flooring exposed there is needed, and it sounds like you have space to accomplish that.

      The room is large enough, but there are floor plugs under the sofa and the rug is up against them. Rug was a little large, but loved it so I am willing to have it squeeze the bluestone hearth. Any chair ideas

      I don’t really think you need help. You have negated every suggestion. I think you know what you want, so go for it. You want those chairs you pictured earlier.

      The vintage SF map idea is great, or I also think a beautiful vintage landscape painting of the golden Northern California hills or something similar could work well with the room

      As an update we have decided to have a built in floor to ceiling display shelf installed on the long wall behind the piano. After more measurements came to realize the depth of the wall made the space look odd if piano was to far away. This will pull the piano out further and still leave plenty of space for an additional chair. An additional feature we will have a place for a few of the items picked up during our travels and a few of our signed books of which we have more than a few. The built in was on the original architect plans, but were designed for the whole wall on both sides of the fireplace this is a compromise.
