It is a funny space - the left curtains cover a - pop-out - don't know how else to describe it - the curtained space extrudes more than the surrounding space, and to extend the curtains, I would have to have some kind of custom curtain rod bracket, longer than a normal. Easier just to live with it, if the painting looks fine where it is... Would a smaller painting look better? Thanks!

No, I think a smaller painting may look unintentional.

Just a thought: Do you have the space/option to put the bed and nightstands on the right side wall in front of the window? Would that give more symmetry? You can then keep your art on the same wall but just lower it a bit.

There is a fantastic view and a cozy window seat behind that curtain... and not enough space to put the king bed and two nightstands on that wall.

Is there any way for you to rearrange your room to make it more centered?

The only reason it doesn't feel right is because of the off centeredness.

The painting is a great size, and would better if you could center everything out.

I agree with mmilos...the painting seems the right size/shape for the space. The off-centered issue is a bit distracting. However, I wouldn't change the size of the painting. What is the room size, and what is on the other two walls? Are the curtains usually opened or closed?

Rearrange it how? The bed could go further to the left, but I am not sure how that helps.I am pretty sure that long ago, it was two small rooms. Behind the left curtains is a large, rectangular alcove, with a window, that I use to store a shoe rack and my suitcases! I will get a better photo of the whole room when I get home.

The left curtains always stay closed because they cover the weird alcove (that I use as a storage space). The curtains allow a diffused light to enter from the two large windows behind it. The right curtains are opened every morning. The house has a mansard roof, so there are deep dormer windows throughout the upstairs, and those are two.

I'd put something above the lamp on the right (portrait mode). Not too wide. But, make it personal! Make it meaningful! it's a bedroom--a private space--not someplace for "wall art" from a décor store.

One vertical item above the lamp, and then maybe something horizontal over the bed (group photo, photo from vacation trip, etc.) Center it between the curtain and the end of the headboard. Align the tops of the two items.

If I cover the right side two blocks and it becomes a square it seems to work better as it ends right where the headboard ends. This will make it a bit more symmetrical. Thus a square piece is my advise.

I would remove the art and fill the space with additional curtains behind you bed. Also change the curtains from the other window for a Roman shade. What do you think?

The room looks balanced. You won't achieve symmetry here anyway, so getting it balanced is the way to go. The art is the right size and shape and goes well with the rest of the furnishings without drawing undue attention. Just right.

hmmmmm am I the only one longing for the drapery to be switched out to the same color as the taupe/gray pillows on the bed?

The curtains aren't really full enough. I would add at least one more panel to each window. If there is nowhere else to put the bed, I would select a painting which does not pass the side of the bed. With the white windows and bed coverings, I would paint the walls a light color...light teal, aqua, sage, or any color you like which goes with a couple of rug runners for the sides of the bed.

I would not hang artwork there. It accentuates the asymmetry and feels really off.

Agree with previous comments for fuller drapes, perhaps even going all the way across that wall.
