Lighter pillows..lots of textured ivory and white would..or white background and large contemporary prints.....add larger art with bold white background..your art is to small and hung to high...but I think it is a super cute room and looks cozy and comfy...

I would paint the walls they are much to gold...a light greige color..

white blinds with light airy curtins. one larger art on wall with some white and a color of your choice to match pillows and a large plant. fun fun!

Larger rug.

Get rid of those dark blinds. Something white, light, and airy would really help brighten up the room.

Really those dark blinds are the first thing to go IMO. Lower your art work as mentioned or better yet get a larger piece for that space . I can’t see what you have for lighting so can’t comment there.I would also paint those walls if possible.When it comes time to replace the sofa forget the chaise and get one that allows space on both sides.

I decided the pop of color will be green, and will add lots of white/ivory to brighten (throw pillows, a larger rug).

What type of blinds would work for these windows? Keep in mind I’m renting I don’t own so painting or anything extensive isn’t really an option.

Also for those who inquired about lighting there is recessed lighting in the ceiling and this lamp!

Greens are not really the best choice with that color of wall...if you can’t change the paint color go for blues instead..it works nice with warm tones and great with browns.

For blinds, just about anything that fits would work : ) . Do you live near an Ikea? (I'm thinking you might from the tray on the coffee table.) Here are some choices there,

Ikea also has inexpensive curtain hardware and curtains if you want to hang a pair over the blinds to add some softness, texture, and lighter colors to the room.

I disagree that green wouldn't be the best color choice. Just make sure that the green tones you choose are warmer (like in the philodendron leaf pillow) rather than cooler (like the blue-ier greens, acqua etc).

Another idea: remove the shelf with the pictures, and put a small coffee table near chair.( I see a clean wood stump)

Green is fine. Lower all your art. Pull your recliner and lamp closer to the rug so it's part of the conversation group. Then your rug won't seem too small.

I feel the coffee table is fine. There are couple of options for making this room brighter. Larger light color area rug, light color curtains (to offset the dark blinds) and larger art work. The room is also smaller so would suggest a mirror in an another wall.

Update: hung my new artwork and replaced the pillows with a pop of color. Still working on the window treatments & carpet.

Art is too high, too far apart, and should be centered over the sofa. Please don't use the same print twice.

Try getting a larger rug, replacing the blinds with lighter ones, getting some drapes that a light and bright, and adding some much lighter pillows. Once that is done it will help a lot.

I'd lower the art over the sofa, but not as low as groveraxle has it. (For me, that would be bellybutton height!) Definitely don't repeat a print.

Your new coffee table is great. See about switching out those blinds, or use light curtains instead.

I agree with groveraxle. The reason you hang art at the height grover suggested is because you will usually be viewing it sitting down. Any higher than grover shows the art would not be proportionate. Following.
