lighting on a two story stone fire place.

Knew I forgot something! We have a two story fireplace, river rock, and no lighting on it. We do have a recepticle that won't be used, track light? spot light? It is about 8 feet away on a vaulted ceiling.

Recessed lights are more contemporary.

I assume the receptacle is on a switch? Since you have been here before, you should know that pictures are a prerequisite now. A picture is worth a thousand words, and I don't want to ask that many questions. Besides, how do I know the answer if I don't get the full question?
