If you leave the TV on the wall and put the sofa on the other wall you will be surprised that they are not as far apart as you think. Another option is to put the sofa with it's back to the front door with a table behind it and leave the TV on the wall it's on, or put in on the wall across from it. I agree that a chair is needed.

I would put the TV on the other wall opposite the wall it is on now. As shirlpp pointed out, having the couch run parallel to the TV with a sofa table behind and a chair or two on the window wall or one on the window wall and one across from it. An area rug that goes under the sofa and chairs will ground the space. Make sure the sofa is perpendicular to the window wall but not in the walkway space.

You can do a thin, smaller sofa table and I would put one chair on the window wall and the other chair across from it.

You can do a C-table for the sofa and a small side table next to each chair with a lamp.

What is your style overall? This is important to know when you are furnishing the room

Target has some great inexpensive side tables that look like their more expensive versions. It is difficult to pick out anything for you without knowing your style, but here is a C- table for the sofa $63 Target C table for example

with a 50-60" tv, viewing distance can be 10-14'. You're fine on distance.

I get a wall mount and do a nice credenza underneath it.

do you need a rug? coffee table? any chance of losing those vertical blinds on the window or is it a sliding door? can you do drapes?

Thanks for the advice so far! An area rug is certainly in the future. :) As you can see, the couch is not even present yet, as it was a special order. So everything is really a blank slate.

As for my style, I am going for a more modern look. The couch will be medium-dark grey with track arms and tapered legs, yet very plush. So not a super-severe modern style; I want function over form, but not many embellishments: rounded edges over just curves, polygons over circles, etc.

the vertical blinds are ABSOLUTELY going. Terrible stuff. I will likely get cellular shades with accent curtains.

I will need everything. :) All of my old stuff was 15 years of hodge-podge. This is my first home, so I am starting fresh. :-D

Looks like you could actually get chairs on both sides of the media cabinet if you want more seating.

BTW, don't pay much attention to Belfort's style designations on their furniture. What they call modern and mid century is pretty far off the mark.

How big is your TV? I found a TV stand that looks like it would work in your room. It is 20.75"H x 72.37"W x 19" D. Nice low long one, depending upon your TV width.

So I ended up buying this 71" tv stand in the gray which appeared in the link Denita gave me:

It appears to be the same as this one, but almost 100 dollars cheaper:

It appears that Walker Edison is the actual company that makes it while Mercury Row is a "brand" that Wayfair (AllModern) groups items under. Pretty big price difference!

The comments do say for that one though that it is a nightmare to assemble. Looking forward to that. ;)

I ended up getting someone from Craigslist that knows how to assemble furniture. He did a fantastic job for a very reasonable amount (I had several). He was efficient and quick and had no left over parts and used all the pieces :) So you might want to consider someone that assembles regularly if you find it's too much for now.

Never even thought of that. I can usually handle it myself and I have plenty of free time, but I will definitely keep that in mind if it is a big piece that is hard to hold myself.

And that might include this tv stand. :-D

Congratulations on your new home. If you decide to float the sofa try finding a shallow sofa table. It will help define an ‘entry’.
