Floor Stain - Dark Walnut or English Chestnut

We pulled up the carpet in our new (1930s-era Spanish Colonial Revival) yesterday - and voila! We found some lovely wood floors that are getting sanded and repaired as we speak.

Now we just need to choose a stain. We were leaning toward dark walnut, but we have a cat and a toddler so we worry about maintenance, and we’re also concerned a darker stain will make the smaller rooms feel even smaller, so we threw English Chestnut into the mix.

Thoughts? Which would you choose?

Do you like orange? Then English Chestnut is your answer.

Do you like GREEN? Then Dark Walnut is your answer.

If you have red oak, then Dark Walnut will tone down the pink/salmon colour in the wood. A very light application (not allowing the stain to sit for too long) will work very well without getting too dark.

Our floor guy ended up going a bit darker than I would've liked due to the condition of the floors, but we're living with it.
