Do you need internet connectivity, or just WiFi to alert you when you're in the house?

We need internet connectivity for Ring, Blink, Arlo. I think with Lorex, connectivity is needed only to check from a mobile device. I would really like to be able to get alerts and set an alarm. The idea is to deter/prevent a breakin. What was going to be a simple install is becoming complicated and potentially very expensive. We pay $l05 per month for the hotspot device and 22G.

Thanks for the info. It looks like it is back to the drawing board. Without fiber optic lines, it appears that real time camera viewing is out. The house does have a wired security system, probably goes back to when it was built about 18 years ago. The control panel appears to have no power, so would have to call in someone. Also, if we wanted real time monitoring, we would need to get a land line from Windstream. Any other suggestions?

I have a Lorex system and it works fine without an internet connection. I can access the cameras and the DVR from any computer on the same home network, which in my case, is wired, but there is no connection to the world.

I purposely avoided connecting my camera system to the internet. Most of these devices are programmed to connect to foreign IP addresses and continually transmit data of unknown content.

Beverly, with mtvhike's Lorex setup, he can't get alerts like you're looking for. But, if you had a centralized dvr or hub, you could use that (assuming it's connected to your mifi) to send alerts without connecting the cameras to the internet. Again, i don't know how well they'll work connecting to your cameras remotely from a MiFi.

Look at this site, is an easy way to connect your hotspot to a home internet router and broadcast a stronger wifi signal in the house. You may need this regardless which solution you choose depending on the wifi requirements of your cameras.

Have you looked at satellite internet?

You could check out Simplysafe. It uses its own access point. There is a monthly fee of course.
