Wall colors for open floor plan?

Moving to a home (shown here) with dining room, foyer and living room all open and connected. Our style is more eclectic/artsy than these walls and furnishings. Last photo shows our current living room. I'd love to paint a similar green in the new living room. What should we paint the foyer and dining area? Would other shades (lighter) of green work? What about an orange accent wall? Please help! :)

I think the new home's traditional styling won't work with the green, have you thought of a gray? That can be a more contemporary color that works with the traditional styling. If you use an orange wall, put it on the stairway wall in the living room so it isn't immediately seen from the front door. Make it a surprise!

If you paint entire house true white you have a blank canvas for beautiful colored accents (artwork, furniture, rugs, lamps, etc.). White allows you the opportunity to change your accent colors as often as you like without worrying about your furniture, rugs, accent pillows, etc looking good with wall colors

I agree with first comment. No green. I do like the idea of a greige color. One I know of that has green undertone is Benjamin Moore Hazy Skies. I just did my new home great room and kitchen in BM Revere Pewter. Definitely a gray with beige undertone. Everyone that walks in is in love with the color. Good luck.

I was thinking of bamboo shades. Like that idea? Or would that clash with grey?

Wall colors don't all have to be the same. Think a brownish red for the dining room. I don't think bamboo shades will work for this house, too casual. I think you should stick to 2" venetian blinds if you want something other than drapes.

I would also paint the underside of the arches the same trim color as what they sit on. Further separates the three areas so that different wall colors may be used.

Greige - will work with your stuff, the house and some pops of accent.

Awe, shoot! you're all confirming what my husband says. the house is more formal and didn't fit my ideas. but we're informal people! Excellent point about the arches. They look broken up here, don't they.
What about very light pastel colors? Would that work?

Do the kitchen or the powder room in the green, so you can get it out of your system!

By the time you place your own furnishings in the beautiful home, I don't think greens or grayish green would be a bad decision. I think it's hard to visualize with the very traditional furnishings currently in the home. Once you are moved in, you will definitely be able to use colors you love and make your home perfectly you.

My parents did an olive green in their more traditional home from the entryway through the hallways and stuff. I think it looks nice, but does require a good eye to get the toning right.

Lkristine's design is great. I wouldn't go with a very bright or bold green like your current living room but instead go with a few complementary shades of earth tone greens. I think Lkristine's colors are perfect Good Luck:)
