Problem is these cabinets gave been repainted once already.. they were white originally and previous owner had them painted a faux wood color.. streaks of black/brown technique. I agree with removing shelf and replacing ‘ugly’ door with 8 paned glass door into the mud room. Still wondering about white cabinets. Uhm....?

I think all white cabinets would make the granite look out of place. I think they are okay the color they are.

I would paint the louver doors covering the laundry area the same color as the walls.

I like your idea of putting a glass door between the kitchen and mudroom.

I personally would focus on keeping the cabinets the same color and spending the money on updating the granite and backsplash with something really light! Would totally change the entire look of the room. As for the corner fireplace, I love it! Very unique!

The dark brown trim and cabinets have got to go. The cabinets, once white, were painted faux wood brown. The original owners/contractors of the home were designers, and they installed the white cabinets with the granite. Have to wonder if white is the way to go.

Ask the owners/designers what they thought about the original white paint. Were they bored and just wanted to change it to brown? Or was the original white too stark?

If there's a scrap of the granite around somewhere, take it with you when you look at white and off white paints. Same with the flooring scraps.

Have you thought about a sage green paint for the cabinets? With a bit more saturation than the green below the chair rail.

How is the finish presently as far as durability? Is it scratching off or poorly done?

Do you foresee possibly having the money to replace the cabinets, perhaps change up the kitchen in 5 to 10 years? I ask because the layout is not the best with the range and sink so close together and the sink facing the wall - not the end of the world, but the space could be done so much better. Because of this I would not sink the money into a professional paint job but would save up for a new kitchen. If it helps you get through the next few years, you can take on painting the cabinets yourself - it is hard work. I don't recommend DIY paint for the long term, but to get you by while you save up for a more complete overhaul would be OK.

Attached is picture of a kitchen where the owner took out the centers of the doors and added glass, to get away from so much oak. Perhaps something similar might work for you.

Do you love that granite? Since that is a faux wood finish on the cabinets, I definitely would paint them white. For me, I don't like that granite. If you have the budget, I would change that granite. For a classic look with the white cabinets: black granite or a gray quartz...maybe some marble backsplash tile. I also think it would be nice to have some open shelving beside that window so the cabinets don't stop abruptly at the window. Could put your coffee cups, etc. on them since that is where the coffee pot is located. Just my humble opinion. White cabinets would really lighten the space up. The latest Houzz survey shows white cabinets still rank at the top. Go for it! Good luck and please post the final photos.

I like the granite. Paint the cabinets and the walls a light green that coordinates with the green tones in the granite.

that slab lineup on the backsplash is horrible. if you will be painting the cabs white, that granite splash has to go. I mean, if you can do the countertops as well, great, because against a white I don't think it's the best match. It's so very dark and oppressing. even w/white cabs, that backsplash portion is bad.

remove the corner FP, all the chair rail (only one reason to have chair rails and that's for chairs!) paint baseboards and trim white. remove the heavy molding and replace w/a simpler trim. that door to that room,,,doesn't match. switch that one out for one w/glass.
