need room planner app!!

Does anyone know of an easy to use app that will make a sketch of my family room where I can try out different furniture configurations? I would like to be able to save or export it where I can place on the Houzz advice forum to get ideas from you! I'm considering a sectional but want to make sure it will fit or be the best option for the space! Thank you!

Download Ikea's free 2d/3d kitchen design program, as it also includes bathroom and office stuff, which includes sofas, tables, lights, etc. I've used it - successfully! - to sort out what furniture will work where in our dining room and living rooms, as well as designing the actual kitchen.

It's fun, free, and very easy to use. Probably better on a computer than a phone or ipad, though.

I opened a free account at roomsketcher. I use it on my PC. I don't think you can use it on a tablet or phone. It was fairly easy to figure out.

    I've used roomstyler.com/3dplanner and it's ok. It's free.
You can always go analog. When I was a kid my sister used to use graph paper to sketch out the room, then she would cut out furniture pieces from the graph paper to scale. She would put some tape on the back and move pieces around.

Pro Patricia's recommendation is great. I use graph paper, being sure to include doorway openings & windows and the exact size of the room, and cut out each piece of furniture to scale. Be sure to include end tables, etc. Cut it out of graph paper first then you can trace them onto heavier paper like index cards, or for ease of placement, onto post-its. I worked with manufacturing design engineers. They all had the use of auto-cad and other very complex design engineering software. When we were moving to a different building, most of them (2 bosses had large offices, 20 others had cubicles) used graph paper & templates to decide on their office furniture layout of desks, work tables, file cabinets, bookcases. I got the idea from them and have used graph paper ever since. It's fun.

Seeing "room planner" in the title: I'd look at Home Planner, which used to be called Room Planner.

It's an app where you draw or scan a room with your phone, put in furniture at real size and see it in 3D before you buy. A few things people usually care about:

    - Free start, no need to pay to try a room.

    - Works on iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac and Windows.

    - You can share a project by link so someone else can view or edit it.

    - A community inside the app where people share their designs.

The catch: some features (the full catalog, AI Redesign, uploading a plan) are on paid plans, but you can really create any room on a basic free plan. Try it on one room first.
