Every Winter my cat had ear infections. Solved!

Feeding him Grain Free food. Solved! No more ear infections.

Note: Previous to finding this solution.....the vet checked him for mites and I even got a 2nd opinion. None! The vet cleaned his ears, didn't help.

Nicole, our dog suffered chronic ear infections and we switched to grain-free. In the past six years she has not had one--no more dreaded head twitches!

Wow! I've never heard a grain allergy or sensitivity problem relating to an ear infection! Did you just change food and the problem was solved or did someone suggest this as a solution?

Someone on The Kitchen Table suggested it as a solution. She liked "Taste Of The Wild". Ace Hardware sells it here & has half off coupons. Convenient....since I'm there all the time, right!?! :0) Not even an ear twitch this winter. We used to call him Yoda. He'd flatten & twitch his ears & bend his head down, scratch w/ his hind foot....then off to the vet for ear drops. No more! YAY!

No grain food = no ear infections, is enough to pass along to others. I'm not giving a chemistry lesson. Just practical advice that might work for someone else. Just trying to help.

Nannygoat, can you recommend a grain-free dog food? My dog has always been kinda itchy--he rarely gets ear infections but I'm ready to try a new diet for him. Maybe we'd get lucky and it's a grain allergy. :)

(I missed the deleted posts but if they were asking how allergies could lead to infections, my guess would be that the excessive scratching breaks the skin and just opens you up to infection, especially in those delicate moist spots like ears.)

I just realized he no longer throws up hairballs since changing to "grain free"....hhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmm........he has really long hair......

ForI, I can only recommend the brand that worked for Charlie-canidae grain free pure limited ingredient-there are several varieties with limited ingredients- we hit the jackpot with lamb. I realize there’s lots of controversy regarding grain free, but dietary change seemed to have resolved the issue and I’m certainly grateful that such a product is available.

Thanks all. I know it's a long shot attempting to diagnose potential allergies like this but it does seem to be a common one so it's worth a try. It's easier to switch dog foods than to do a real full blown elimination diet. :)

He's probably allergic to me.

A grain free diet change takes a good month to see any results. You'll know soon enough. Keep us posted.
