I bought a cordless Panasonic iron last year. It is heavy and I like it. It is really nice to not have a cord dragging across the fabric, especially when ironing a quilt top or backing. I use tap water that has been filtered in my Brita pitcher.

So are you saying a $50-150 iron not needed? Relief!

I love my TFal steam iron. It has a ceramic sole plate and nothing sticks to it. With quilting I use a ton of spray starch an it never stick or burns on the plate.

Whatever brand I have upstairs, I will never buy again. Everything sticks to it. I always have a black mess on the bottom. I'll try and run up tomorrow to get the brand.

I bought a very expensive iron once. I didn't last long, leaked and I hated it!! At one of the quilt retreats, Jennifer had a Black and Decker that I loved. Went to a clearance store (Big Lots), and got one for about $20 and have used it ever since. Works great and love it!

Rose & Mimi - Which model of the TFal’s are you using?

DH works on the base so he ran by the BX during his lunch hour. He picked up a extremely light weight Proctor Silex steam iron for me to use “for now.”

It is so flimsy; most of the body is translucent plastic. The sole plate is about 1/8” thick. It’s embarrassing what businesses are passing off as “quality goods” now.

It did heat up and generated steam. (I use distilled water.). I pressed and steamed the February Lottery fabrics and they look nice. If it lasts even a year I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

I have the fabrics for two of my three lotto blocks cut out - and pressed. Hopefully I can begin stitching them together in the morning.

My iron is a Rowena and as I said, everything sticks to it. I'm ironing old sheets that have been laundered a million times to make dog beds, and something is sticking to the bottom of the iron.

Caroline, this is mine. I don't see a model# on it. It was around$50 at Walmart.
