I actually have an azalea in my yard, here in Ft.Laud. It was my grandmothers, so it reminds me of her, and I HAVE to save it.

She is long gone, so I MUST save it. I didn't even know that they grew in south Fla. till she planted it after getting it one mothers day, from a florist, over 25 years ago! I thought they only grew up north.

Well it has now 'moved itself', the main plant was dying, and is now dead, BUT it sent out a 'runner' or something, and there is now a BIG new bush, growing and blooming right now, about 2 feet further away from where it WAS located.

Now it is in the hanging over the walkway in my yard, I NEED to move it. But have no idea how. It is in the way, I am having to walk on the grass, killing it, I want to move it back into the area garden area where the original plant was. Out of the way, back where it belongs. But how do I move it?

It is a simple single pink flowering azalea, if that makes a difference, and it blooms like 2-3 times a year...it reminds me of my grandmother...can anyone tell me how to go about moving it, with the best chance of it living?

I don't want to dig it up and throw it out. But it can't stay where it is. Does anyone else grow azaleas in south Fla. I never knew they grew here, and yet 25+ years later, it is still going strong. So...is there a technique to moving them? If so...how???

***** BTW.....I JUST looked over all the posts for azaleas in Fla. This one I RARELY if ever fertilize, never pruned back, it is in our pure sand soil, it has been under like 80% shade cloth all of 2017, (I had some shade plants, near it, so I just put the cloth over it all). Then it grew like wildfire, but the main plant died, and this new plant started growing/blooming.

After Hurricane Irma hit, it really took off! Now it is so big, it is in the way, and as I said, growing into the walkway, and I had no idea they even grew here. But I do next to nothing to it, and it grows like crazy. So...pure luck I guess...but...how to move/save it??
