Kitchen splashback

Any thoughts on a splashback for our newly finished kitchen? Was thinking a charcoal grey glass but am open to ideas. Cabinets are white under the blue film.

Hi. Your contemporary kitchen is sweet! I love the soft blue. so soothing! I think you can jazz up the 2 colors you have with either a blues blend, similar to the one bonnielynn75 has, or even punch it up with a new color, for energy! Both of these tile blends are on Amazon. Do you have under cabinet lighting to show off your new selection? Please update us and let us know what you choose! Good luck.

I forgot to mention that whatever ones you really like, buy a 1 sheet of your possible ones, and tape them up. Live with them for a few days. It will help you "see" them in your space. Computer monitors and your actual lighting can alter your decision.

Charcoal greys in varying colors,,,a bit of stainless metallic,,,,,maybe a speck of black at the tiles, or even a speck of the wood tone with the greys could look very chic in this euro kitchen.....no subway, too traditional, in my opinion....small mosaics are good, or a skinny horizontal feel in a straight lay if you want to play up the contemporary feel/look.....or staggered skinny horizontal for a softer feel...no rough finish on the tile.....smooth would work best in this kitchen. OR one slab of a natural material so no grout lines at all.

    Jstirl,

Love the kitchen! What a great color! I don't think I would go with a blue in the backsplash, blue is vary hard to match up since there are so many different tones!

A cool look in modern kitchens now is using the skinny glass and turning it vertical, looks really cool!

The blue colour is a protective film over white gloss cabinets.

Wow.sky is the limit. I would go to a tile store and see what is out there rather than just limit your possibilities here. The tiles at a well established store will help you narrow your likes and dislikes. Such stores have hundreds of choices.

In that case the sky is the limit, glossy white cabinets! You can do anything!!

I think it depends on what you are looking to do with your backsplash.... Continue the really sleek contemporary look or add some warmth or natural material? If the former I like your grey glass subway tiles in a larger format like 4x12 or 6x12 or you could do back painted glass. If the latter I love marble in a gloss white kitchen.

This kitchen, with an aqua backsplash as accent, reminded me a bit of yours. I do think bringing in some color and contrast in the backsplash is a good idea since your counter and cabinets are both solid cream tones.

I like the idea of a grey tile with these cabinets. Perhaps "Smoke" or "Ocean Grey" would work well. I would get a few samples and put them in the space to see what look you are most attracted too. We would love to help you with your tile selection for this project so please don't hesistate to contact us with any questions.

Thanks for all the comments, just to clarify the blue is a protective film & will be removed, cabinet doors are white.

Do you plan on changing the color of the walls?
I was thinking along the modern white kitchen and go with a neutral color with textures for a monochromatic look. You could add a touch of a color. Blue is peaceful in a notches.

Well, who's the idiot? After rereading your very clear original post, I see that your cabinets are white. I revise my original suggestion, to include 2 others. Both are on overstock.

One has mercury gray glass, gray stone and a shiny silver metal in a wave mosaic. (my favorite) It has movement and shine, all staying within your color family choice, but allowing some variation and pizazz.

The second is a glass and stone mosaic in a piano glass size, (long and linear), a variation of the subway tile super contemporary! It incorporates some warm brown stone with the gray stone, and of course, gray glass. I would urge a vertical installation, for extra punch.

Please let us know what you decide. Cheers!

I think I'd choose something neutral, a mix that appears textured for a backsplash. White, cream, beige. The texture will be enough contrast and interest to the sleek cabinet finish. Backsplash and cabinets are expensive to replace if you ever tire of the color that you will be tied to.

An easier and less expensive approach is to use tin sheets. Can be personally hand cut and applied with screws and bolts for a bit of the industrial style. Easy to replace.

I would add something in keeping with the contemporary look, but use colors to tie the room together and still add some warmth. The glass tile you like only use the lighter tones in the same color family of the various shades in the flooring... Add pops of color with floral arrangements or use various bright glassware items that can be tied in with bright cookware, etc....

I had an idea to use plane white tile on my kitchen and then decorate with vinyl decals, that way I can change things up in a few years.
If I do it, I will post a picture.(we are leaving the backsplash for last)
