Well, yes, I think you need a rug because it's pretty and it makes the space cosier. But I also think the smaller size is fine. But what is that white rug (or large splash of white paint?) doing under the blue chair? And lovely little orange cushion not so good with this rug. I'm liking the room, carping aside.

I do feel the bigger rug would be a better fit.

I’m not a fan of rugs on top of rugs. Rather than a rug I think your room needs a table or two & rework the lighting.

Rug on Rug is known to be a trip hazard, especially when it comes to little kids.

While i appreciate your comments, and i know that a rug over a carpet is a debate, I’m one who thinks the room is better with one than without - even if it’s over carpet so a rug will definitely stay but so far I’m leaning towards bigger.

Haha laughing about the “white splash of paint” it does look rather stark in the pic. I have a weird obsession with a small fur rug overlap. The main rug used to be off white (and i had all Sorts of white pops within the room) so yah it may have to go..... errrr be purchased in ivory or gray tehe

I need to take off the light above tv. I prefer a chandelier with wood or gold but at the moment I’m working with it. I like my fireplace sconces.

Tables can’t fit, all seats if recliner recline and my kids Run and play in the space too often. So although a coffee table would be lovely, yet another rule i will prob have to break.

I prefer the larger rug though the 8x10 works ok. I have to agree with the comments about the white rug, as well as the pouf. Too distracting; draws the eye directly to the corner and past the pretty rug.

If you are going to get a rug, we recommend you get the bigger rug.

I think the smaller rug works, but you need to push the sectional towards the curtain wall and closer to the fireplace so the sofa isn't interfering with the frontal view and of fp.

I think your money could be better spent elsewhere.

If i posh it any closer to back wall we it’s way close tit he French doors. I would love the fireplace in perfect view but i don’t think it can go bad any farther without being awkward

Here is an updated edit of what I’m doing. Painting chandelier and railings. But I’m stumped on what to do for coffee table. Both the shape and color/material. It can’t be too large because all the seats of the sectional recline. So something like nesting tables or two smaller will work best for moving around when needed (#4 silver ones i would paint)

Glad for new thread, cause though I visited it was hard to keep track. Seems a solid table would have 'presence' for large room... just not the legged tables, imo...

and though high up: chandelier and railings already have cage/railings 'covered'... ?

Everdebz, see this is where my brain has no clue. “Match” the railings and chandeliers “open wire feeling” or be opposite. I think you are prob right though. Now if i can just actually decide in something including color ♀️

The word 'opposite' was interesting: openness on one hand, and solid on the other [sectional, fireplace]....

the tv unit in one way doesn't seem a 'go' with white rug - a small rug seems a bit dinky / bedroom-ish.... and that might hinder the look, ideal decisions.... ?

Maybe you can sell the blue chair and the mirror to pay for a new set of throw pillows for the sofa.

Larger rug works better IMO. I love this rug you have now for the room. I also think the white throw rug is distracting from the overall look.

DENITA and EVERDEBZ there is no longer a white rug. In my most recent pic i sorta edited it out (i was too lazy to take a new pic and re edit railings haha) BANJO, check most recent pic, o won’t be having that mirror, but art instead. but i do mike my blue chair. I’m getting all new pillows for sure.

For any of you still with me, Here’s the progress so far! Painted chandelier and added black chain, light above tv gone, art by fireplace gone, new large art on FB and one layer of hammered paint on some of the rails. Oh and those sticks will be a faux fiddle fig. Area Rug will Finally be here Tuesday and then I’ll figure out pillows and other decor (and if i need to time down the turquoise in my art). Suggestions welcome! NOTE: the body on the couch is my husband who is alive and well lol

I got the bigger rug but also one with rust and blue. Im scared I’m going to be a color overload but the ivory i had was also going to be scary to keep clean. So we’ll see if i have a rainbow brite overload once i have it hehe

I think your room is coming along nicely. Your room has such great light. Would you consider a live paddle leaf fig or ficus instead of fake? I bet it would do very well in your room as you have the height and light for them to flourish.

For "coffee" table, I like the idea of two light weight solid pieces in a warm wood tone. Maybe something like this to relate to your fireplace and media console top? It's shape is very similar to one you posted earlier.

MANON, thank you! It does have a lots of light, i love it! I would prefer a real fiddle but i wasn’t sure it would get enough light in that corner. If i pulled it in front of a window it would be behind my couch. Thoughts?

Looooove the idea of a couple of these wood guys for me coffee table! I’ve been looking for something like this, wood nesting tables or stools like this. I’ve been hung up on what the best shape is.

Also is my console too farmhouse for the space? It has generic knobs so maybe adding something a bit more modern? Then again I’m told I’m eclectic which means I’m a crazy cat lady can do whatever she wants right? haha

I can't really see the clearance you have behind your couch, but I think live plants are worth making some design cconcessions. Besides, you may only have to position it partially behind your sofa. Turning it a quarter every time you water will allow it to grow evenly - and pruning when necessary.

I think your console works well. I wouldn't worry about the knobs. It's a detail you can revisit later, if you wish.

Cassi, have you thought of redoing/remodeling the fireplace? In your photos, it looks so small and squat against that large, tall wall. You wouldn’t need to go to the ceiling, just raise the box, and improve the molding around it, so it is more of a presence.

TEAMALTISE one day we will definitely re-do it. It’s tough cause we love it (ornate antique looking up close) but it’s def too small for the space. But i don’t think we could get wood to match. It would just have to be completely redone. I would like a white stone one that goes all the way to the ceiling, with some shelves beside it - one fine day when my money tree goes hehe

MANON I need you to get me one of those cards haha. I’m totally in the club! I don’t love this couch, will prob need to figure something else out eventually. Ideally, we re-do fireplace and a tv is on it (like the above pic i just posted) then turn the couch so nothing will be backing up to my French doors and windows and i will def have happy plant life over there. Until then, i will see if i can get a real one to work with his set up. I so prefer real plants to fake.

Guys I’m having a chair struggle! I had that short blue one (in first pic) but i said see ya later... I felt it was too short. Originally i was just going to get a taller navy blue (like the one in Pics) but now i kinda feel like i want something lighter and neutral (like the other chair pic). But will the light one disappear in that corner? or the dark frame will save it? For reference the original blue chair was 32 tall and this other blue is 40, the neural One is 36 tall. Also, what are your feelings on the white pouf?

I like the taller blue chair, no pouf and no accessories around the taller chair including no pillow in the chair. It’s a maybe on the little round table tho.

I really love that spindle chair. It's got loads more interest and character than the blue ones. Add a colorful throw pillow and it will be great!

A late update but an update none the less I did end up org spindle chair and i love it. Still needs some pillow tweaks, coffee table, Bigger scones etc but it’s coming along! Thanks for all your comments

Can you move the sectional on the opposite wall so you can see the pretty view outside? Then put the TV in the corner.

Robinhome, nope, tv doesn’t fit in the corner by fireplace and door (i assume what’s you mean). And i don’t like the corner idea of a tv fighting with fireplace... Plus then we have to rewire and reinsert cords into wall and all that jazz. I’m just doing decorating/cheap updates right now :) One day we will redo the fireplace wall And the tv will go above and the lovely view out those French doors won’t be blocked by a couch.

The space is looking great! Though I read that a coffee table is bothersome, I'd like to suggest another option. How about an oval tufted ottoman/table with storage & not placed dead center between the sectional and t.v. wall? They're so functional (x-tra seating, foot rest, etc)....

River Forrest resident, an oval may be just what i need. Because the narrow shape would hopefully miss getting kicked by the pop out foot rests from sectional. I thought about nesting tables too that i could move around more easily as needed
