What to put on walls on either side of dining room fireplace

We remodeled a bungalo and made what used to be a living room into a dining room.

Please advise thoughts on what to do (install mill work) or put artwork over matchung consoles on the large blank walls on either side of the fireplace.

Take the mirror and the lamps off the mantel, hang some art on either side , you do not have enough space to add any kind of cabinet below . What purpose do the random chairs serve in the space ? Where is your LR now?

They chairs are used At the ends of the dining table for additional seating large dinner parties.
Here is photo of new LR. We took out all the walls and added 9’ to the entire back of the house

Wow, that is unfortunate. I would not have made that room a dining room because of that fireplace, and if I had to for some weird reason, I would not configure the space so that the dining table sits right in front of it. I would fix the space and use it as it is intended (a living space) or I would reconfigure the table to find another way it can be in that room and not in front of the fire place. Who wants to eat their dinner with their back to a raging fire that is hot which is not only uncomfortable, but unsafe to sit that close to it with your back to an open flame.

I think the dining table in front of the fireplace is fabulous. I would not use consoles on each side of the fireplace though as for me, it would become a bit too crowded and busy.

I would go with tall canvas artwork on each side, in a style consistent with your tastes. I think your home is lovely.

Is there room to arrange so everyone can enjoy the fire and the cold natured ones can sit next to it?

I agree that the dining room is wonderful with a fireplace! There's a lot going on in your room with furniture, so I'd just select something for the walls and leave it at that.

And your home is just beautiful!

Thank you for your input. Unfortunately there is not enough width in the room to turn the table but that was a great idea.

    Beverly,
Thank you for your suggestion on the lighting and painting.
I have had my eye on this light fixture for the DR.
Please let me know of it.

I have been looking for tall canvas pieces of art for either side of the fireplace per one of the other reader suggestions.

Any thoughts on that where to find such artwork would be appreciates

IMO a bronze finish for the chandelier will work better.

Take out the lamps leave the mirror or put up some artwork. Space is big, so the mirror is not that necessary I say just change the light fixture to go with the rest of the style.

The lamps on the mantel have to go. Without them, you may need more light than that chandelier will provide.

Put big art on the sides.

Keep the mirror, remove the vase of flowers from the mantel and put the candlesticks there instead.

I was just looking for where to find large canvas artwork, and there are lots of online places, just google "large modern canvas art".

I am 100 % on board with replacing light over dining table and large art works for either side of fireplace.

I think I know what light over table to get but am still searching for the large wall art pieces. I'd like to go a step higher in appearance from the TJ max/world market type
    giclee prints.

Also, I do think the fireplace wall needs more lighting.

The mirror and lamps over the mantel should be replaced with artwork. The mirror over the fireplace is very traditional, and doesn't go with the way you have (beautifully) decorated the rest of the room. The lamps just don't belong on any fireplace, traditional or not.

The sconces look good in your renderings, but they will limit your mantel decor permanently. If you do go with sconces, please put them on dimmers so you can adjust them to a level that doesn't blind your diners. The ones below are just below the blinding level. Too often, sconces turn the whole wall white.

I think portrait format pieces would work better. That said, I would either move them closer to the fireplace so they read as a unit, or farther away so they are behind and connected to the chairs.
