Interesting situation

I have a Key West Rock Rose... grafted on Fortuniana... so I have one of the roses known to flourish in our sandy soil grafted onto a plant intended to help roses not suited to our soil. I've been thinking of rooting the Key West Rock Rose and planting it then whacking the parent plant off the fort stock and planting the Fortuniana. I actually really love the bloom on fort, even if it is once a year and I could play with it as rootstock. Does that seem like a reasonable thing to do? Can the Fortuniana take partial shade?

TIA
