Organization Help Needed!

My husband and I bought a few mid century fixer upper. The house has tiny closets throughout including our front entry. On one side is a double front door, on the other side is a sliding glass door leading to the backyard, there is a door to the garage door tucked in next to the closet and next to the staircase is a sweet little closet that is currently holding our 2 kids shoes and backpacks. My husband started to install the new trim when we decided to pause and rethink a better system. One thought is to tear out mirror and add shelves up to ceiling for more storage. Or tear the mirror/shelf and closet out to add storage bays or make one big closet? Any thoughts?

I agree that you need to rework that small closet and mirror and shelves. If I were in your shoes, I would make a big closet there (one) rather than have this space split into two like it is now. How deep is this area? You could use bi-pass doors or double swing doors so the entire new closet area is accessible.

Or you could add specialized pull out type storage. You can customize the whole area with different size and shape pull outs in keeping with your home's current style

Hi There! I love the idea of both opening up the space and shelves, however, I would add some sort of sliding door, so that you can hide some of the items when necessary. Like this! - best - Anna (this style is a little farmhousy, but there you can make it more Mid Century with a lighter clean modern wood and black modern rails.)

Here is storage designed for under the stairs but you could use the same concept for your entry closet. You may end up with more storage this way and it is camouflaged when the doors are pushed back in :)

Thank you! I think creating a larger closet is the correct thought. I like both of your ideas. The current closet is 28 inches deep. However if I bumped it out about 2 inches shy of the green glass molding that could buy us about 4 more inches and would shockingly line up better with the slider across from the front door. The front door and green glass need to be replaced along with the slider. Now that I am thinking of it, maybe I have my order wrong in what needs to be replaced first? Front door, then slider then closet?

I also really love the slide out closet/cabinet for the little space next to the stairs!

I agree that you would be better off replacing the front door, then the slider and then the closet. The closet has the most flexibility and the front door has the least amount of flexibility so you preserve your options best by changing the front door first. JMO
