Hosts and dwarf gardenia together

I am laying a couple dwarf gardenias and want to mix hosts behind this area. I have enough room but concerned if the hostas will be tall enough. I have about 2-3ft depth so I know that there are varieties that will be taller, but will that be enough room to get a variety that will be taller?

I looked up dwarf gardenias and Monrovia said they only get 8-12" tall. Put some medium hostas in there and let the duke it out. You can always move them or cut them in half. See what works. Nothing with plants is set in stone. Whatever you plant will most likely look good for a few years before your have encroachment. Ah the joys of gardening.
